The city council initiated measures for improved event security, the city launched an official WhatsApp channel, and decided on the reorganization of the city museum. In the education sector, the implementation of the right to all-day support was realized. Here is a review of the most important topics.

Culture, Security, and Innovation: March in Andernach in Numbers

  • The City Museum Becomes Interactive: A feasibility study for the museum's reorganization was approved, which will incorporate digital elements such as VR and holograms.

  • New Daycare in Kell: The city of Andernach will take over the operational responsibility of the Zauberwiese daycare in Kell.

Culture: Exhibitions and Museum Development

Andernach's cultural landscape will undergo significant changes in the coming years. In March, the special exhibition „Andernach im Blick!“ for 2026 was announced and will be displayed at the „Bagatelle“. The exhibition showcases print graphics from the 18th and 19th centuries from the museum's collection and is another step toward a stronger museum presence for the city.

In addition, a feasibility study for the reorganization of the City Museum was approved. The goal is a new, interactive exhibition concept covering approximately 175 m² that combines urban and food history. Digital elements such as VR, holograms, and tasting stations will modernize the offering and make it attractive to a broad range of people.

Security and Infrastructure: Event Security and Street Renovation

With inter-municipal cooperation in the „REV4Safety“ project, Andernach is setting standards in event security. Together with Mayen, Mendig, and Pellenz, a mobile access protection system is being acquired for use at major events. Andernach is contributing a share of 9,785.00 €, while 35,000 € is supported by the IKZ special funding „Gemeinsam sicher feiern“.

There were also advances in the area of street renovation. The 5th amendment to the zoning plan for the industrial area on the B256 was approved. Additionally, demolition plans for several buildings on the Steinweg and the Konrad-Adenauer-Allee were passed to redesign the urban space.

Digitalization: City Museum and Municipal WhatsApp Channel

The city's digitalization continued with the introduction of a municipal WhatsApp channel. The channel was launched on 04 March 2026 and is in a six-month pilot phase. Each department has named a responsible person as an administrator, and editorial coordination is handled by the Office for Civil Protection and Communication.

The City Museum is also being revitalized through digitalization. The feasibility study not only envisions digital elements but also barrier-free access and the museum upgrade of the House of von der Leyen. An external elevator is planned to improve accessibility.

Education: All-Day Support and Daycare Takeover

In the education sector, the implementation of the right to all-day support under the All-Day Support Act (GaFöG) was decided. Starting from the 2026/2027 school year, Andernach will offer Full-Time Support Schools (BGS) and Comprehensive Full-Time Schools (GTS). The cost contribution for parents was set: 63.00 €/month for BGS at regular schools, 25.00 €/month for GTS-Plus, and 152.00 €/week for the summer program.

In addition, Andernach will take over the operational responsibility of the Zauberwiese daycare in Kell. Existing contracts will be continued until their expiration, and the administration will be tasked with conducting discussions with parents.

Culture, Security, and Education: A City in Transition

March 2026 shows how Andernach remains active and sets impulses in various areas. Culture is being strengthened through new exhibitions and museum innovations, security is being improved through inter-municipal cooperation. In digitalization and education, the city is focusing on modernity and inclusion.

Outlook

In April 2026, further public meetings are scheduled, in which the feasibility study for the City Museum will be discussed in subsequent committees. In addition, the implementation of all-day support will be detailed, and the digital offerings of the city will be expanded. Andernach is on a path of innovation, security, and cultural strength – and that is a good thing.
