Andernach in April 2026: Budget Policy in Focus
In April 2026, Andernach focused on key budgetary issues ranging from medical practice funding to taxi fare adjustments. The Main and Finance Committee thoroughly examined investments, fundraising, and budget planning.
Andernach: Budget Policy and Financial Decisions in April 2026
April 2026 was a month of intense financial decision-making in Andernach. The Main and Finance Committee made numerous decisions during its meeting on April 15, 2026, shaping the city's financial planning for the current year and beyond. Particularly notable were the discussions on the support of primary medical care, fundraising efforts, and the adjustment of taxi fares.
Support for Primary Medical Care: Investment in the Future
Ensuring primary medical care is a central issue in Andernach. To stabilize medical services in the region in the long term, the committee advocated for subsidies for practice modernization and new practice establishments. Three specific funding applications were discussed in the meeting:
- Dr. Liv Hamann received €20,000 for the establishment of her new practice.
- Mr. Mohamad Moslimani was supported with €9,454.85 for the modernization of his practice.
- The Joint Practice Dr. Fries / Dr. Kirchrath received €4,545.15 for an expansion.
These subsidies are part of a comprehensive strategy developed by the city of Andernach over recent years. They follow a clear line: practices should be financially supported to ensure medical care in the region. At the same time, it is being examined how existing funding guidelines can be optimized. The administration has been tasked with conducting an evaluation and submitting proposals by the next meeting in May.
Fundraising: Transparent Financing of Public Projects
Another important topic was the collection and acceptance of donations. In April, donations totaling over €21,000 were approved for various projects. Particularly noteworthy was the support for the "Vereinsführerschein 2026" by the KSK Mayen with €2,000, as well as donations for holiday programs by the Foundation for Our Youth.
Andernach has clear rules for the collection and use of donation money. Donations of €100 or more must be publicly announced – a rule that strengthens transparency and credibility. At the same time, the city remains flexible in sensitive cases, as shown by the example of an anonymous €50 donation for the Senior Dance Café: here, the protection of privacy was decisive.
Taxi Fare Reform: Adjustment to Rising Costs
Another focus was on the 5th amendment of the taxi fare ordinance. The proposal to adjust the base and per-kilometer prices was discussed for various reasons – especially due to rising wage and operating costs.
The administration proposed increasing the base fare for taxis in Andernach to €5.00, with a per-kilometer rate of €4.20 for the first three kilometers and €3.00 from the fourth kilometer onward. The waiting fee remained unchanged at €39.00 per hour.
This adjustment should not be viewed in isolation: compared to neighboring cities such as Koblenz or Mayen, Andernach's new rates are in the average range. The new fare ordinance will come into effect on May 1, 2026, and is a step toward ensuring a sustainable financial flow in the taxi industry.
Conclusion: A City in Transition – with Clear Financial Priorities
Andernach has demonstrated in April 2026 that it is consciously dealing with its finances. Whether in the support of medical care, the collection of donations, or the adjustment of taxi fares – the focus was on sustainability, transparency, and planning security. These decisions are not only important for the current budget planning but also for the city's long-term development.
What remains is the expectation that the evaluation of funding guidelines and the discussion on the site concept for second-hand clothing collection containers in the coming weeks will provide further impulses for the budget planning 2027.
