Freiberg April 2026 – Focus on Infrastructure, Youth and Heat Planning
In April 2026, Freiberg saw important decisions in the areas of infrastructure, youth support, and forward-looking heat planning. The Building and Operations Committee initiated progress in sewer and road construction, the Administrative and Finance Committee brought more movement to the city with a mobile pump track, and the City Council decided to launch a municipal heat plan.
Infrastructure and Construction Projects: Strengthening the Urban Structure
In April 2026, the Building and Operations Committee of Freiberg implemented key measures to improve the city's infrastructure. The contract for the Renovation of the Mixed Sewerage System in Neugasse and Obergasse (1st construction phase) was awarded to LSTW GmbH. With a total price of 468,361.81 € gross, this is a milestone in the renovation of the old town.
Furthermore, the Ceiling Repair of the Street "Walterstal" (3rd construction phase) was awarded to Andreas Adam GmbH at a cost of 886,438.30 € gross. The measure is funded from the city budget and is part of the comprehensive road renovation in Freiberg.
Another project was the Demolition of Bridge Structure Bw21 (C6) and the Construction of a Temporary Bridge at Försterberg, awarded to Bau-Berger GmbH at a cost of 437,194.60 € gross, with the Administrative and Finance Committee approving an extra-budgetary expenditure of 106,100 €.
These projects are part of the long-term strategy to stabilize the urban structure of Freiberg and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
Youth Support: Mobile Movement for All
The Administrative and Finance Committee approved the purchase of a mobile pump track for 70,000 €, funded by a combination of Silberstadt voucher funds, sponsors, and grants. The pump track will be set up at three different locations annually, including the Schloßplatz and various districts of the city.
The funding was drawn from the liquidity reserve, which was necessary since the Silberstadt voucher balance became known only at the beginning of the year. From 2027, the Rolling Bonez e.V. association will manage the pump track, supported by an external project manager and support staff. The pump track will be stored in the hall in Münzbachtal, and the cooperation agreement provides for an annual payment of 1,000 €.
This project is an example of creative youth support and strengthens the social and sporting participation of young people in Freiberg.
Heat Planning: Toward a Climate-Friendly Future
The Freiberg City Council unanimously decided to initiate a municipal heat plan in accordance with the Heat Planning Act (WPG). Freiberg Stadtwerke AG was tasked with coordinating the planning. A Steering Committee for Heat Planning was established, involving the city administration, municipal utilities, housing companies, and tenant associations.
In addition, it was decided to review and apply for funding from the federal government and the Free State of Saxony. This step is an important milestone in climate-friendly urban development and shows how Freiberg is actively responding to the challenges of climate change.
Local Councils: Local Impulses
In the local councils of Zug, Kleinwaltersdorf, and Halsbach in April 2026, mainly local issues were addressed. In Zug, the 2026 budget plan was approved, while in Kleinwaltersdorf and Halsbach, residents' questions and protocol confirmations were in the foreground.
The public availability of consultation documents on the city website (www.freiberg.de/stadtrat) underlines the value of transparency in municipal politics.
Outlook and Summary
April 2026 in Freiberg was characterized by pragmatic decisions on infrastructure, an innovative youth support initiative, and the launch of a forward-looking heat plan. The city is moving toward a sustainable, livable, and climate-resilient future.
In May 2026, further meetings of the Building and Operations Committee and more local discussions will follow. Citizens are warmly invited to actively participate and help shape the developments in Freiberg.
