In March 2026, Andernach focused on numerous measures to improve its educational infrastructure. From renovation projects to new acquisitions, the School Board is taking action to sustainably enhance learning conditions.
Education in Andernach: What Was Decided and Implemented in March 2026
Education policy in Andernach is in motion. With a focus on structural renovations, technical equipment, and pedagogical innovation, the School Board made important decisions in March 2026. The meeting on March 19 not only reflected concrete progress but also highlighted the challenges arising from regional financing and the increasing demand for modern learning environments.
Structural Renovations and Energy Efficiency
In March 2026, several renovation projects were completed or advanced to the next phase. For example, the renovation of the gymnasium at Grundschule Martinschule was finished, with the exterior facade and landscaping scheduled to be completed during the Easter break. In the Eich gymnasium, the energy-efficient renovation of the ventilation systems is in performance phase 3 and planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Further measures include the replacement of flooring, guardrails, and emergency exit doors in the Miesenheim gymnasium. These works, planned for the Easter break and lasting ten weeks, emphasize the focus on safety and learning comfort. Additionally, the fire safety improvements of the library at Grundschule Namedy are continuing, with the construction application already approved.
Equipment and Innovation in Classrooms
The equipping of schools in Andernach is another key focus. In March, several purchases were approved that directly support learning and pedagogical work. These include the acquisition of a triple bench for music lessons in cooperation with the regional music school, Flexo-shelves with wheels and boxes, as well as stackable benches.
Particularly innovative is the creation of future-oriented classrooms equipped with modern technologies and flexible learning environments. The installation of height-adjustable desks and chairs for the 4th grade and the initial equipping of a workshop room demonstrate how the city of Andernach is responding to changed pedagogical requirements.
Criticism of State Funding and Financial Planning
Despite positive developments, funding remains a central issue. In the current meeting, it was critically noted that the state of Rhineland-Palatinate provides insufficient funding for IT support at Andernach schools. The actual costs per student per year amount to 162 euros, of which the state only covers 11 euros. This financial margin is not sufficient to implement necessary IT support.
In contrast, the 2026 budget planning for the Grundschulen GTS St. Stephan, GTS St. Peter, and GS St. Kastor has been approved. Funds for special acquisitions have been allocated, showing that the city of Andernach is financially on track to sustainably stabilize its educational infrastructure.
Outlook for the Coming Months
The measures to be implemented in the coming weeks and months show that Andernach is on the right path to improving educational conditions for children and young people. The renovations, investments in equipment, and cooperation with regional partners such as the regional music school underscore the decision to regard education as a central area of responsibility.
However, the challenges remain – particularly in financing. Without a significant improvement in funding from state and federal budgets, it will be difficult to sustainably meet all pedagogical and infrastructural requirements. Nevertheless, March 2026 offers a positive outlook on a future-oriented education policy in Andernach.
