Medebach in March 2026: Road Construction, Permits, and Political Decisions

In March 2026, Medebach focused on important decisions regarding infrastructure, urban planning permits, and political motions. This blog provides an overview of the key developments.

Road Construction and Infrastructure Remain in Focus

What Was Important This Month

  • Road Construction in Medelon: The city council unanimously approved construction measures on the street "Auf’m Rain" (328,422.15 €) as well as on "Bergstraße" and "Am Schützenplatz" (767,679.63 €).
  • Approval for an Inhalation Cabin: The FWG faction's motion for an inhalation cabin in the "Garden of Generations" was unanimously adopted.
  • PV Support Program Rejected: The SPD’s motion for a municipal support program for photovoltaic systems failed to gain a majority and was rejected.
  • Reduction of City Share in the Graue Flecken Program: The city reduced its contribution from 1.45 million euros to 423,411 euros.
  • Silke Lensing Appointed as Substitute: Following Désirée Schinner's resignation, Silke Lensing was unanimously appointed as her substitute in the city council.

Road Construction and Urban Planning Permits

March 2026 was marked by concrete decisions in urban planning. Particularly notable were the unanimous decisions regarding the renovation of the roads in Medelon. The total investments of over 1.1 million euros show that the city is fulfilling its responsibility for infrastructure. The streets "Auf’m Rain", "Bergstraße", and "Am Schützenplatz" will be renovated in the coming weeks and months, which is important for both residents and commuters.

Additionally, the release of fixed provisions of the zoning plan No. 2 "In der Schla" in Küstelberg was granted to allow the construction of a garage. This marks another step toward greater flexibility in urban planning to accommodate individual needs.

Public Spaces and Health Promotion

Another focus was the discussion around the "Garden of Generations". The unanimously adopted motion by the FWG faction for an inhalation cabin is a step toward greater health promotion in public spaces. Such facilities can be particularly beneficial for older citizens and people with respiratory issues.

In contrast, the SPD’s motion for a municipal support program for PV systems failed. With 16 votes against, 7 in favor, and 3 abstentions, the decision was clearly lost. This shows that there are still differing opinions in Medebach regarding climate-friendly initiatives.

Financial Optimizations in the Graue Flecken Program

Within the Graue Flecken program, there was a significant cost optimization. The city's share was reduced from 1.45 million euros to 423,411 euros. In addition, 80% of the costs were covered by funding, thereby significantly reducing the financial burden on the municipal budget. A further 40,000 euros in funding was also approved.

The tree-planting campaign also remained well below the budget estimate. Only 22,000 euros were spent instead of the planned 50,000 euros. This led to the threshold for a procurement process (25,000 euros) being undershot. Whether this is advantageous in the long term remains to be seen.

Political Structures and Personnel Changes

After Désirée Schinner's resignation, Silke Lensing was unanimously appointed as her substitute in the city council. In addition, Lensing's formal induction into office was approved. These personnel adjustments are necessary to ensure continuity in political work.

Another formal decision concerned the approval of the minutes from the last session on 15.01.2026, in which three council members abstained.

Overview of Political Discussions

The city council meetings showed that despite some unanimous decisions, there are still political tensions in Medebach. While the FWG motion for an inhalation cabin passed, the SPD idea of a PV support program failed. In addition, the FDP motion for changes to the main regulations was postponed due to the lack of concrete proposals. This highlights the fact that political initiatives in Medebach only succeed if they are clearly formulated and broadly supported.

Outlook: What’s Coming in April?

In April 2026, it is likely that the focus will shift to the concrete implementation of the approved construction measures. The renovations in Medelon are already in preparation, and the first works could begin in April. In addition, it is expected that the discussions on climate-friendly measures and infrastructure will continue, particularly if new proposals or motions are submitted.
