Urban Development in Medebach: Heat Planning, Infrastructure, and Municipal Yard Modernization

Urban Development in Medebach: Heat Planning, Infrastructure, and Municipal Yard Modernization

In April 2026, Medebach made key decisions regarding the future of its municipal infrastructure. The focus was on the creation of a local heat plan, the renovation of road networks, and the modernization of the municipal yard. These measures are part of a long-term plan for climate neutrality and the improvement of municipal services.

Heat planning as a central component of climate-friendly urban development

The creation of a local heat plan for Medebach and Hallenberg is a crucial step toward climate neutrality by 2045. The plan, developed in accordance with the Heat Planning Act, analyzes the existing building stock, heat consumption, and the distribution of renewable energy sources. Using a Digital Twin and the ENEKA.MAP software, spatial modeling and analysis of the heat demand are enabled.

The heat plan aims to ensure an affordable and climate-friendly heating supply, evaluating various supply options – from decentralized solutions to district heating networks. Funding programs such as the Federal Funding for Efficient Heating Networks (BEW) play a central role in financing. In the coming years, feasibility studies and investment applications will be a priority.

Infrastructure Renewal: Market Street and the Main Road in Oberschledorn

Another important topic in the Construction Committee was the renovation of Market Street. The work is planned for the summer holidays after the budget decision was made. In Oberschledorn, the main road is in poor condition, with responsibility lying with the state. The municipal yard has been tasked with minor tasks such as traffic signs and lighting.

These investments are necessary to improve traffic safety and the quality of life in the city in the long term. They are part of a broader plan to gradually modernize Medebach's infrastructure in the coming years.

Municipal Yard Modernization: Investments in Technology and Vehicles

To ensure the long-term efficiency and performance of the municipal yard, Medebach has approved a multi-year plan from 2026 to 2030 for the procurement of vehicles and equipment. In the coming years, investments in a multifunctional machine, a mobile excavator, and a wheel loader with winter service equipment are planned.

The modernization of the vehicle fleet and technology reflects the need for more efficient work processes, especially in winter service, road maintenance, and landscape care. Cost efficiency is also ensured through the use of used vehicles and leasing offers. The vehicles will be auctioned via the VEBEG platform once they are no longer needed.

Local Heating Network in Oberschledorn: Opportunities and Challenges

A status report on the potential local heating network in Oberschledorn was presented. The densely built town center offers favorable conditions for a pipeline-based heating supply. Feasibility studies and early involvement of relevant stakeholders are central to implementation.

Although a feasibility study was conducted in the past, the project was not pursued further. Nevertheless, the topic of local heating remains a central part of future energy planning in Medebach.

Outlook: Sustainable Urban Development

The decisions of recent weeks show that Medebach has set a clear course toward sustainable urban development. The combination of heat planning, infrastructure modernization, and municipal yard optimization is a step toward a climate-friendly, livable, and economically strong city. The coming months will show how far the implementation progresses and what new challenges arise.
