Weyhe in Focus: Climate Protection, Culture, and Daycare Centers in February 2026

In this monthly review, we highlight the most important developments in Weyhe: from climate protection measures through cultural projects to planning for daycare centers.

Climate Protection and Energy: Focus on Local Implementation

In February 2026, Weyhe took a decisive step forward in its climate protection efforts. The Climate Protection Working Group discussed the action plan catalog of the Climate Protection Action Plan 2035, which includes a total of 15 concrete measures. These are divided into two areas: Energy and Buildings (10 measures) and Mobility (5 measures).

Particularly noteworthy is Measure EuG 4, which supports private property owners with thermographic images to identify renovation potential in their homes. The costs for this measure are low, and the complexity is also assessed as low. Success indicators include the number of participating households and the implementation of renovation measures.

Another highlight is Measure EuG 5, which will impact the expansion of wind energy in Weyhe. The municipality plans to create planning prerequisites and strengthen cooperation with project developers and farmers. Each wind turbine can save up to 8,000 tons of CO₂ per year.

Financial implementation is supported by funding programs such as the Special Program "City and Country" (BALM) and the "Bicycle State" Program. In addition, a car-sharing pilot project with cambio Bremen is planned for the years 2026–2028.

Culture and Sports: Partnerships and Local Projects

The Committee for Sports and Culture dealt intensively with the cultural development in Weyhe. In 2025, 170 events were held in the municipality, including 126 in the Cultural Barn, 11 children's theater events, and 6 cabaret evenings.

A special project is the inauguration of the Henry-Wetjen-Platz, scheduled for late August 2026. In addition, the Weyhe Cultural Youth Award will be presented on September 3, 2026.

A cross-party motion also proposes the establishment of a city partnership with a Ukrainian municipality. This project is a clear sign of solidarity and international cooperation.

Daycare Centers: Expansion and Educational Development

The Committee for Schools, Daycare Centers, and Youth dealt with planning and care in the municipality. A focus was on the expansion of the Erichshof Full-Time Primary School, with the architectural firm KMS presenting a status report.

In addition, the care needs for the daycare year 2027/2028 were presented. The daycare center Jahnstraße was also in focus: Maurice Weiß and Nicole Marks presented recent developments and educational structures.

Social Affairs and Public Order: Support and Expansion of the Fire Department

The Committee for Public Order and Social Affairs dealt with important social issues. Particularly noteworthy is the daycare center "reta", which supports people with addiction disorders in their reintegration. Funding is provided through the Integration Assistance under §53 SGB XII, meaning no additional costs for the municipality.

In addition, a principle decision was made for the new fire station in OF Lahausen. The Volunteer Fire Department Weyhe reported on their training and events, including the Intercommunal Training (IKA) 2025 and the commissioning of 14 new emergency personnel.

Outlook: Integration and Sustainability as Central Themes

February 2026 shows that Weyhe is actively working on integration, climate protection, and cultural development. Although the implementation of the Climate Protection Action Plan depends on political and financial decisions, the municipality has set clear directions with concrete measures such as thermography for private households and the car-sharing pilot project.

Weyhe is also active in the social field: The daycare center "reta" is an example of social support in the municipality, while the Volunteer Fire Department ensures greater safety with new structures and training.

Conclusion: Weyhe is Building Bridges to the Future

February 2026 in Weyhe was characterized by clear decisions, concrete projects, and long-term planning. Whether in the area of climate protection, culture, or social affairs – the municipality proves that it relies on clarity, cooperation, and sustainability even in challenging times. With an eye on the future – and the inauguration of the Henry-Wetjen-Platz as well as the Cultural Youth Award – it becomes clear that Weyhe is ready to actively shape the year 2026.
