Uslar – March 2026: Education, Fire Safety, and Cultural Impulses

In March 2026, Uslar focused on decisions in the education sector, fire safety modernizations, and cultural support initiatives. Learn what is relevant for you and your family.

Modernizing Education and Fire Safety in Uslar

What was important this month

  • Extended childcare hours in kindergartens: The Education Committee decided to expand core childcare hours in the daycare centers – although the early hours (07:30 – 08:00) will not be counted as full childcare time.
  • Heating modernization at schools: The Grundschule Schönhagen will receive a new pellet heating system, to be implemented in 2026.
  • Fire department receives new uniforms: The Uslar Volunteer Fire Department will gradually replace its uniforms by 2050, with costs spread over several years.
  • Artificial turf for the Sollingstadion: The Council referred the proposal for an artificial turf pitch at the Sollingstadion to the Building and Fire Safety Committee.
  • Archive fees adjusted: The fee schedule for the Uslar City Archive is being revised to align it with other cities.

Education: Childcare Hours and Investments

The Education Committee made several important decisions to improve childcare services in Uslar. The expansion of core childcare hours in the kindergartens was passed with 8 yes votes and 1 no vote. Additionally, the DRK-KiTa Sollingbande will be expanded with 5 additional places in the Ü3 group.

However, the expansion of the Ev.-luth. KiTa Schönhagen had to be postponed by one year due to budget constraints. Instead, the feasibility of using container-based construction is being evaluated as a more cost-effective option.

Investment-wise, the heating renovation at the Grundschule Schönhagen is planned at a cost of 330,225 euros, with the pellet boiler accounting for the largest share at 97,500 euros. The renovation of the deteriorating façade at the Schoningen kindergarten will also be included in the budget, with Mayor Torsten Bauer emphasizing that the damage is not limited to Schoningen.

Fire Safety: Modernization and Staffing

The Building and Fire Safety Committee unanimously approved the renovation of the heating system in the building complex at Amelither Straße 47 using a pellet heating system. The tendering process will take place in April 2026, with implementation planned for the summer holidays of 2026.

Another key focus was the replacement of the uniforms for the Volunteer Fire Department. The new uniforms will be introduced gradually from 2026, with the existing uniforms remaining in use until 2050. The cost of an immediate replacement would have been 250,000 euros, so the city opted for a phased modernization. Additionally, new ranks according to the Nds. FwVO will be introduced as of 01.08.2026.

Kevin Deutschler was also appointed as deputy local fire chief of the Wiensen Fire Department and entered the honorary civil servant relationship. His term of office begins on 01.04.2026 and ends on 31.03.2032.

Culture and Social Affairs: Support and Realignment

The Culture and Social Committee approved the first amendment to the archive fee schedule to align the fees with those of other city archives. Additionally, the guidelines for the support of youth and junior fire departments were revised. The membership requirement was reduced from seven to five, and a catering allowance for district junior fire competitions was introduced.

The guidelines for youth work support were also revised. The membership requirement was reduced as well, and funding for construction projects and youth spaces was removed. These changes aim to streamline processes and provide greater flexibility for projects.

Cross-Departmental Topics: Budget Discipline and Future Security

It is notable that the budget situation played a role in several decisions – be it the expansion of the Schönhagen kindergarten or investment in new uniforms. The city of Uslar is clearly prioritizing: investments will only be made if they fit within the budget or are long-term viable.

Another trend is the focus on sustainability – whether through the use of pellet heating in schools or the long-term planning of uniforms. Uslar is opting for solutions that are viable not only today but also in the future.

Conclusion and Outlook

March 2026 in Uslar was marked by investments in education, fire safety modernizations, and cultural initiatives. The city is showing a deliberate and forward-looking approach – investing where it is relevant for its citizens in the long term.

In April, the focus will be on implementing the approved projects: the heating modernizations at the schools, the gradual introduction of the new fire department equipment, and the preparations for the artificial turf pitch at the Sollingstadion. In addition, further budget decisions are expected to secure the financial basis for these measures.

Uslar is on a course that places both security and future viability at the forefront. The city remains active – yet disciplined in its planning.
