Fürth in the Budget Focus: Financial Decisions and Investments in April 2026
In April 2026, Fürth made important financial decisions that will shape the city's future. From investments in education and fee adjustments to the financing of cultural projects – here is an overview of the budget decisions and their implications.
Budget Strategy and Investment Planning: What Fürth Decided in April 2026
The budget decisions made by the city of Fürth in April 2026 show a clear focus on long-term investments in education, infrastructure, and culture. At the same time, fee adjustments and financing models were revised to ensure stable city finances. The sessions on April 29, 2026, provided numerous insights into the city’s financial planning and priorities.
Investments in Education: New Kindergarten and Full-Day Schools
A central topic was the funding of the new kindergarten at Poppenreuther Str. 50. With total costs of 3.73 million euros, the kindergarten is 100% covered by state funding, minus a municipal construction cost subsidy of 510,500 euros. In addition, there is a total equipment subsidy of 157,150 euros. This investment underlines the importance of early childhood education in Fürth and shows how state funding programs can be used to realize municipal projects.
Another focus was the funding of renovation measures for full-day schools, particularly the Jakob-Wassermann School. With state funding of up to 70% and a municipal contribution of nearly 27,000 euros, the school is being made fit for full-day operation. The total costs amount to 280,000 euros, with 158,500 euros allocated for construction and 75,500 euros for technical equipment.
Fee Adjustments and Increased Revenues
The city also made significant changes in the area of market fees. The stand fees were increased by 15 euros per front length, resulting in total revenues of 3,270 euros. However, a shortfall of 770 euros remained. In addition, it was proposed to end exemptions for non-profit organizations to secure revenues.
In the area of the sewage fee regulation, two changes were decided: a reduction of fees for minor changes to 50 euros and the introduction of electronic application for garden water meters. These measures are intended to relieve the administration and at the same time increase transparency.
Cultural Projects and Funding
Fürth is also investing in cultural areas: it was decided to award cultural prizes with an annual cost of 16,000 euros. These expenses are budgeted under HHSt. 3000.6313. In addition, the Apple Market received financial support, with a shortfall of 770 euros covered from the climate protection allowance.
Another project discussed in April is the "Education City" project, which has been extended until 2029. With a total volume of over 950,000 euros, 40% of the costs are subsidized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBFSFJ). The city of Fürth covers the remaining share from its own budget.
Budget-Relevant Changes and Administrative Optimizations
In addition to investments and fee adjustments, legal and administrative changes were also decided. New guidelines for the award of cultural prizes were set, and the Burial and Cemetery Ordinance was revised. These changes have financial implications, but are not annual follow-up costs and are therefore well planned financially.
Another focus was the sewer usage fee, for which unplanned funds of a total of 268,000 euros were allocated. The funds are to be used to settle outstanding invoices and were unanimously approved by the Finance and Administration Committee as well as the City Council.
Outlook: Stability in the Budget Despite Growing Investments
The budget decisions in April 2026 document a city that is consciously focusing on investments in education, culture, and infrastructure. At the same time, emphasis is placed on revenue generation and fee reforms to maintain stable municipal finances. The use of state funding programs is a decisive factor in implementing projects that would not be feasible without external support.
In the coming months, it will be particularly important to monitor the effects of these decisions and make adjustments if necessary. Budget planning in Fürth is a process that requires transparency, flexibility, and long-term perspectives.
