Urban Development and Sustainability: The Framework Plan for Bertelsdorf-Glend

The urban development framework plan for Bertelsdorf-Glend, which was approved in March 2026 following several comments and public consultations, is a central milestone in Coburg's urban development. The plan was unanimously approved by the Committee for Urban and Transport Planning as well as Construction on March 11, 2026, and recommended for approval to the City Council on March 26, 2026.

The focus was on ecological and traffic-related aspects. Measures for the creation of retention areas and green corridors in accordance with the Sponge City principle were defined, amphibian guidance systems were planned, and an emission-reduced lighting concept was proposed. Traffic-wise, a traffic light system or a roundabout is planned, as well as a continuous pathway connection between Lautertal and Goldbergsee.

The administration has been tasked with conducting traffic studies, examining rail connections, and carrying out climate simulations in the next planning phases. The framework plan is available online at www.coburg.de/rahmenplan-bertelsdorf.

Finance Committee: Budget Overrun and Additional Revenues

In March 2026, the Finance Committee approved a budget overrun of 161,000 euros in budget category 1032 (matters of public order). This overrun for 2025 amounted to a total of 160,810.50 euros, distributed across three product accounts. The funding came from additional revenues of 70,000 euros, 55,000 euros, and 41,000 euros.

The approval was granted in accordance with Article 66, Paragraph 1 of the Bavarian Municipal Code (GO). The minutes of the first public meeting of the Finance Committee on February 24, 2026, were approved, and the execution of the 2025 budget was reviewed.

Education and Full-Day Schools: New Offers for Coburg Children

In March 2026, the Culture and Education Committee decided to continue the eCn class at the Heiligkreuz-Mittelschule Coburg and to introduce an open full-day school at the Grundschule Coburg-Ketschendorf. The city is taking over third-party funding of 8,000 euros per year for three years for the eCn class.

For the open full-day school, the city of Coburg finances 8,068 euros per group until 4:00 PM and 7,346 euros per short group until 2:00 PM. The total costs for 20 hours of care per school amounted to 52,700 euros, funded by the city, the Agency for Work and the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture.

Overview and Outlook

March 2026 was marked in Coburg by decisions that invest in the future: from the urban development framework plan to financial adjustments and new educational offerings. The city is moving toward sustainability, digitization, and social inclusion – topics that will gain further importance in the coming months.

Looking ahead to April 2026, it will be interesting to see how the implementation of the approved projects progresses, what consequences the financial decisions will have, and whether further comments or public participation will follow. Coburg remains a model city that takes responsibility for the environment, education, and social welfare.
