Governance and Administration in Weingarten: Decisions and Developments in February 2026
In February 2026, Weingarten was marked by a range of political decisions and reports that influence the structure and function of the municipal administration. The administrative committee convened on 09.02.2026 and focused on several key topics, including budgetary issues, tourism, volunteering, and youth policy. These decisions reflect the city's efforts to act both citizen-oriented and economically sustainable.
Budgetary Decisions and City Marketing
A central point of the meeting was the adjustment of the grant to the Weingarten.IN City Marketing GmbH. The administrative committee recommended to the municipal council to increase the grant for 2026 from €200,358.00 to €285,358.00. This increase is due to rising costs such as personnel, materials, and IT services. In addition, a prepayment of €100,000.00 was approved to ensure the financial planning of city marketing for 2026.
The decision reflects the strategic importance of city marketing for the tourist development and the image of Weingarten. At the same time, it shows how closely the administration collaborates with its own companies to achieve long-term goals.
Development of the "House of Volunteering"
Another central topic was the progress report on the "House of Volunteering" at Mühlbach. The project, which was decided in October 2024, is now being implemented. The goal is to create a central point of contact for associations and volunteers, which is intended to strengthen synergies and consolidate structures.
The focus is on the establishment of a full-time "support officer" with a 20% workload, who will accompany and support the senior citizens' meeting place. Carolin Schattmann will take on this role in addition to her regular duties. The administration plans test runs with associations, structural adjustments, and the introduction of a "Tatkraftoption," in which rooms can be used through engagement instead of money.
The project underlines the importance of civil engagement and shows how Weingarten is aligning its administration for a partnership-oriented cooperation with civil society.
Youth Policy and Family Policy
The administrative committee also introduced the new Children's, Youth, and Family Representative, Mr. Roman Hüttinger. His task is to represent the interests of children and young people in the city and to coordinate the Open Children's and Youth Work (OKJA) offers. These include working groups, the Girls' Club, football working groups, counseling sessions, and break-time supervision.
Another topic was the current status of the full-day care entitlement at primary schools. Here, criticisms from parent councils were raised regarding the flexibility of the care offers. The administration now plans to retain existing contracts and stabilize structures until 2028/2029. From 2029/2030, new care concepts will be examined.
Governance Structures and Citizen Inquiries
In the course of the meeting, personnel changes in the committees were also announced. There were changes in the Integration Advisory Board and Youth Council, with the roles of StR Sen and StRin Spieß being exchanged. These changes illustrate the dynamic structures within the Weingarten administration.
In addition, several inquiries from council members were processed, including topics such as parking duration in underground garages, job postings in energy management, and pollution in the city area. These inquiries show how actively the citizen representatives accompany the administration in its work and how sensitively Weingarten reacts to local problems.
Outlook
The decisions and reports of February 2026 show how Weingarten is further developing its governance structures. The city is focusing on transparency, civil engagement, and sustainable budget planning. At the same time, it becomes clear that the administration is flexible in its response to changes and inquiries. With the start of the "House of Volunteering" in March 2026 and the further development of youth and family policy, Weingarten will take further steps towards a citizen-oriented administration in the coming months.
