Weingarten in April 2026: Administration, Traffic, and Change

In April 2026, the city of Weingarten made important decisions for the future – from the introduction of a tourist accommodation tax to the digitalization of committee work. Here is an overview of the most important topics.

Administration in Transition – Weingarten is Moving in New Directions

Important Decisions for the Quality of Life

What was important this month:

  • Approval for the tendering of catering services for primary school canteens
  • Introduction of a tourist accommodation tax starting in 2027
  • Revision of the administrative fee ordinance with additional revenues starting July 2026
  • Adoption of the zoning plan BP 171 "Argonnensportplatz"
  • Introduction of AI-supported documentation for committee meetings

Administration and Digitalization: Weingarten Aims to Become More Modern

In April 2026, the city of Weingarten took a decisive step toward digital administration. The municipal council approved the introduction of AI-supported documentation using the software "SpeechMind". This innovation will accelerate and increase the transparency of the documentation of committee meetings. The cost for the software is calculated as a gross annual license of 2,313.36 €, supplemented by one-time and monthly fees for the AI connector. In addition, the council's rules of procedure were adapted to the new technological possibilities (§ 35). The decision was also evaluated from a climate protection perspective – no negative effects on the climate were identified.

Digitalization also affects transparency: Citizens will have faster access to minutes and can better inform themselves about the work of their representatives in the future.

Traffic and Education: Support for Students

Another focus was on the exemption of student transportation at the Schussentalschule. The municipal council decided to tender the supply and service contracts for student transportation to further improve traffic safety and punctuality. This is a direct contribution to the educational infrastructure in Weingarten and ensures that students in rural areas are reliably transported to school.

In addition, the tendering of catering services for primary school canteens was approved. This measure is part of the efforts to ensure school food supply while also keeping costs under control.

Public Finances: Taxes, Fees, and Budget Improvement

In April, the municipal council decided centrally on budget improvement by introducing a tourist accommodation tax starting in 2027. This tax will newly burden tourists in Weingarten and help relieve the municipal budget. In addition, a motion by the CDU faction to reduce the number of council members was discussed – this could lead to more efficient meetings in the future.

Another financial step was the revision of the administrative fee ordinance. The new ordinance, which comes into effect on 01.07.2026, is expected to generate additional revenues of approximately 25,000 €. This is a small, but important contribution to financing investments in social and infrastructural projects.

Land Use and Zoning Plan: Argonnensportplatz is Being Realized

The zoning plan BP 171 "Argonnensportplatz" was adopted with a legal ordinance. The legal basis for this is § 4 Abs. 1 BauGB. The zoning plan is part of a comprehensive concept for the sports and leisure area in Weingarten and will be implemented in the coming years. This project underlines that Weingarten is also thinking ahead in terms of sports and leisure development.

Administration and Citizens – Dialogue with the Future

The decisions of April show that Weingarten is actively preparing for changes. Whether in the digitalization of committee work, support for education, or in the area of public finances – the city is moving toward a modern, transparent, and citizen-oriented administration on multiple levels. These steps are not only technical or administrative, but also a sign that Weingarten is looking to the future and is preparing not only for the present.
