Dresden-News: The Focus in February 2026

In February 2026, the City of Dresden focused on housing construction, climate protection, and cultural projects. Here is an overview of the most important developments of the month.

Housing in Focus: Bauturbo Law and New Plans

February 2026 was dominated by housing construction planning in Dresden. The Bauturbo Law was adopted in several districts such as Altstadt, Blasewitz, and Neustadt, with principle decisions to accelerate housing construction. The goal is to create more living space by December 31, 2030, under conditions such as urban development contracts and cooperative land development models. The Mayor was granted approval authority for projects covering up to 1 hectare of land.

Additionally, zoning plans were discussed in Klotzsche, Blüherpark-Mitte, and Leubnitz-Neuostra. These projects are crucial for urban development and ensuring affordable housing in Dresden.

Culture and Education: Funds Flow to Projects

In the cultural sector, Dresden made progress in February 2026: 5,554.20 € was allocated for the “Theme Days on Addiction” in Pieschen, a concert with Dresden composers was funded in Blasewitz, and a photo exhibition was supported in Cotta. In total, more than 10,000 € was allocated for cultural and social projects in several districts.

In the education sector, developments included a review of land transfer for a residential facility for trainees, and a proposal for school flagging to promote democracy was discussed. In addition, the PVP Cooperation proposed a plan for nature-friendly school grounds.

Climate Protection and Mobility: From Flood Protection to Taxi Tariffs

In the Environmental and Climate Committee, a cycling strategy was proposed, with the AfD faction initiating active discussions on the topic. At the same time, the flood risk management plan for the Prießnitz was prepared, and flood protection in the Altelbarm and Ostragehege areas was also on the agenda.

In the transportation sector, the new Taxi Tariff Ordinance was unanimously approved. In Gompitz, a bike shelter at the community center was approved, and the redevelopment of the sports hall area on Teutoburgstraße was funded with a total of 929,453.19 €, including 569,782.00 € from the KfW funding program.

Citizen Participation and Administration: Livestreams and Petitions

In several districts such as Blasewitz and Loschwitz, meetings were streamed live to promote citizen participation. Several petitions were also addressed in various committees – some were marked as resolved, others as unresolved. In addition, citizen question hours were held, though no specific questions were raised.

The digitalization of the administration also advanced further: Meetings are now documented via the Meeting Service System, and formal decisions are based on documents such as V0677/25 or V0664/25.
