Economic Development in Bad Kreuznach: Focus on the City Center, Quarry, and Vocational Training
In February 2026, the city of Bad Kreuznach continued its efforts to promote economic development and enhance the attractiveness of the region. The Economic Development Committee discussed topics such as city center greening, the expansion of a quarry, and the "Night of Vocational Training 2026." An overview of the decisions, backgrounds, and implications.
Economic Development in Bad Kreuznach: Recent Impulses
Economic development is a key factor for the future viability of cities. In recent years, Bad Kreuznach has increasingly focused on creating a vibrant city center, supporting local businesses, and acquiring new jobs. In February 2026, several initiatives and projects were at the center of the Economic Development Committee's discussions, all aimed at guiding the city toward a sustainable economic strategy.
City Center Development through Greening
One of the central topics of the meeting was greening the city center, a project with multiple benefits. The goal is to enhance the cityscape, improve the microclimate, and increase the quality of life in the city center. Proposed measures include transportable tree planters at Kornmarkt, green seating islands on the Nahe Bridge, and planting beds at various squares.
Greening not only has aesthetic but also economic effects. It is expected to increase dwell time in the city center, which could in turn boost revenues for retail and increase the city’s business tax income. Additionally, it is anticipated that property values will be preserved and the attractiveness for new stores will be enhanced.
The Office for Economic Promotion and Real Estate is leading this project and is also responsible for implementing further economic development measures.
Quarry Expansion and Economic Assessment
Another topic was the expansion of the Traisen quarry by Basalt AG. This project was assessed from an economic perspective. Representatives from Basalt AG and forest ranger Herr Berger participated in the meeting. The project had already been presented in the committee in January 2026, allowing for a more in-depth discussion on its economic relevance and potential regional impacts in February.
The expansion could create jobs and strengthen local economic cycles. At the same time, environmental aspects and potential impacts on the landscape must be considered. Bad Kreuznach is striving to find a balance between economic development and sustainability.
Vocational Training Promotion and Neighborhood Work
Another focus was the "Night of Vocational Training 2026," which will take place on May 8, 2026. More than 50 companies have already signed up to inform young people about career opportunities. The event will be promoted through its own website, social media, posters, and newspaper advertisements. Costs will be shared among participating companies, minimizing the financial burden on the city.
In addition, the work of the Neighborhood Office of the Historical New Town was reported on. Neighborhood Manager Oliver Kelm, who has been responsible for the New Town since 2021, has already achieved successes in urban development. The costs for the neighborhood center were approximately 9,400 euros in 2024 and around 9,500 euros in 2025. The city is currently reviewing whether additional funding options are available to strengthen the work of the neighborhood office.
Outlook and Future Perspectives
Discussions in the committee show that Bad Kreuznach is clearly focusing on the integration of economy, quality of life, and sustainability. The planned expert discussions in the areas of real estate, healthcare, and industry in 2026 will also provide new impulses and highlight opportunities for the local economy.
The city has also initiated first talks about the feasibility study for the State Garden Exhibition (Landesgartenschau) and identified funding opportunities from various programs. This could enable further projects in the future, even if the State Garden Exhibition is not realized.
Overall, Bad Kreuznach is emerging as a dynamic city actively working on its future development—while considering both economic and social factors.
