Important Developments in Wachtberg in April 2026
In April 2026, the town of Wachtberg made important decisions in education, infrastructure, planning, and local development. Here is the monthly overview.
Education, Infrastructure, and More: Important Decisions in April
What Was Important This Month
- Grant for New Soccer Goals: SC Villip received a municipal grant of 4,000 euros for the purchase of new soccer goals.
- New Deputy Headmaster at Hans-Dietrich-Genscher School: Mr. Jakob Lanvers was introduced, and the school development plan was discussed.
- Updated Refugee Statistics: 215 out of 278 possible places in accommodations are occupied, with 39 places still to be filled.
- Barrier-Free Bus Stop in Villip: The planning was re-evaluated due to cost problems.
- New Summer Program for Children: A summer program for 50 children was approved.
- Planning Committee Approves Construction Acceleration: Guidelines for expedited construction planning were established.
Education and Integration: New Impulses for School and Society
The Committee on Education and Society addressed several central topics in April. First, a grant of 4,000 euros was approved for SC Villip 1924 e.V. to purchase new soccer goals. This is a small but important contribution to supporting grassroots sports in the municipality.
Another focus was on school development. The new deputy headmaster of the Hans-Dietrich-Genscher School, Mr. Jakob Lanvers, was introduced. In addition, the school development plan and the renovation of the KGS Villip were discussed. These measures show that the town of Wachtberg is making long-term investments in the quality of education.
Regarding integration, the current refugee numbers were updated: 215 out of 278 possible places in accommodations are filled, with 331 refugees in the FIUAG inventory. However, 39 people still need to be accommodated to meet the intake obligation. This shows that Wachtberg continues to play a role in the reception of refugees.
Another project is the summer program for 50 children aged 10–14. It will take place from July 20 to July 31, 2026, at the school center. The cost is 180 euros for the first child and 130 euros for each additional sibling. This creates a structured offer for young people that provides both education and leisure.
In addition, Wachtberg, together with other municipalities in the Rhein-Sieg district, has aimed to establish an agreement for the implementation of the right to open after-school programs. The goal is to clarify responsibilities between the district and school operators to ensure the quality of full-day schools.
Infrastructure: Accessibility and Road Safety in Focus
The Committee on Infrastructure and Construction dealt intensively with traffic planning and accessibility. An important project is the barrier-free development of the bus stop "Am Steinbruch" in Villip. However, the tender results were 81% above the cost estimate, so the administration is to re-examine the planning until mid-May 2026. This shows how sensitive infrastructure projects are in financial terms.
Another focus was the traffic light crossing "Huppenberg" in Pech. The local committee Pech requested the examination of a pedestrian underpass, which is now being technically and economically evaluated. This is a step toward improving road safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
In addition, it was decided to initiate the participation process for the climate-adapted renovation of the schoolyard in Berkum. A budget of 70,000 euros gross is allocated for this. This shows that Wachtberg also considers sustainability and citizen participation in infrastructure projects.
Planning and Construction: Guidelines for the Construction Acceleration
The Planning Committee made important planning decisions in April. One of the central topics was the Construction Acceleration, a tool to speed up construction processes. The committee decided to apply it until 2030, taking into account § 36a of the Building Code (BauGB). In addition, guidelines are to be created to make the process more transparent.
Another topic was the conversion of a riding hall in Pech. The application was rejected because the conversion would violate § 35 of the BauGB, the land use plan, and the nature conservation area. This shows that Wachtberg also considers landscape conservation in construction projects.
Local Development: Microgrids, Playgrounds, and 30 km/h Zones
The Local Committees of Werthhoven and Arzdorf dealt with local developments. In Werthhoven, it was requested to commission the Energy Agency Rhein-Sieg to examine a microgrid. This is a step towards renewable energy and could improve local energy supply.
The playground design was also in focus. In Werthhoven, concrete curbs are to be constructed at the bus stop to secure the playground area. In Arzdorf, the redesign of the playground was discussed, with concrete planning steps being considered. In addition, the traffic situation in Antoniusweg was analyzed, and a speed measuring device was discussed.
Overview and Outlook
The April meetings show that Wachtberg remains active in several areas. Investments are being made in education, accessibility and safety are being addressed in infrastructure, and clear guidelines are being set in planning. The local committees also contribute to local participation.
In the coming months, it is expected that school development, road safety, and renewable energy will remain in focus. In addition, the implementation of the Construction Acceleration will be monitored, as it could speed up the construction process and make the municipality more attractive.
