Education in Motion – How Neuss is Shaping the Future of Schools in 2026
In a year marked by rising student numbers, modernized schools, and new educational formats, Neuss is emerging as a city actively building the future of education. Our Deep-Dive analyzes the most important developments in education and public institutions in February 2026.
Education in Motion – How Neuss is Shaping the Future of Schools in 2026
Education policy in Neuss is moving toward long-term, sustainable, and inclusive development. In February 2026, numerous decisions, plans, and reforms were at the center of political and administrative discussions – from new construction to digitalization and social and structural adaptations. These developments show that the city is actively responding to the challenges of the future.
School Development and Infrastructure: The New Dreikönigenschule Takes Center Stage
A central topic was the planning and anticipated start of construction for the new Dreikönigenschule. The School Committee approved several motions addressing the inclusion of school leadership in the planning process and the use of funding from the federal special fund. The new Dreikönigenschule will be a symbol of modern educational architecture in Neuss – with a clear focus on sustainability, flexibility, and technical equipment.
In parallel, several construction projects at existing schools were decided. The Adolf-Clarenbach-Schule was completed in 2025/26, and container structures served as temporary solutions. Further expansions and developments are planned to meet rising student numbers and the right to after-school care (OGS).
Digitalization: From 1:1 Equipment to Security Concepts
Digitalization in schools has a fixed place in Neuss' educational concept. All students are now equipped with centrally managed iPads, and schools are connected via a fiber-optic network. These investments are not just technical – they enable modern teaching methods and also ensure a secure digital environment. Content filtering, phishing protection, and malware prevention are key elements.
Another project advancing digitalization is the Startchancen program. This ten-year initiative supports eight schools in Neuss with an annual opportunity budget of over 178,000 euros. It aims to reduce social disparities in schools and strengthen individual support.
Music School and Cultural Education: A Strong Partner in the Education Network
The Neuss Music School plays a central role in the city's cultural education. With over 5,000 participants in 2025 and a wide range of ensembles, concerts, and cooperations with kindergartens and schools, it is a key actor in the education network. The music school benefits from funding by the local bank (Sparkasse) and the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Culture and has achieved numerous successes in recent years, such as in the competition "Youth Music."
A new project at the music school is "JeKits Singen," offered in the second grade. This initiative replaces the successful Instrument Carousel and places a new focus on singing.
Social Justice: From Free Lunch to Inclusive Sports
Another focus in Neuss' education policy is the promotion of social justice. For example, the Greens called for a pilot project offering free, healthy lunches for all students. The goal is to combat child poverty and promote equal opportunities. At the same time, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) advocates for equipping schoolyards with sports facilities to promote physical activity and social interaction.
Solutions are also being actively sought for parking problems at schools. Schools such as the Nelly-Sachs-Gymnasium and the Bodelschwingh Primary School are experiencing bottlenecks, so options such as long-term parking and cooperation with municipal parking areas are being examined.
Outlook: Education in Neuss – A Process of Continuous Development
Education policy in Neuss is not standing still. It is moving toward greater inclusion, more digitalization, and more social justice. The city is investing in its schools, its teachers, and its children – not only with money, but also with vision. The School Development Plan 2026–2031, the digitalization strategy, and partnerships with the music school and other educational institutions show that Neuss is ready to build for the future.
The challenges are great, but the opportunities are even greater. With a clear focus on quality, sustainability, and justice, education in Neuss will continue to set impulses in the coming years – not only for the city, but for the entire education system.
