Hamm – Monthly Blog March 2026: Secure Budget, More Green Spaces, and Better Mobility

In March 2026, the city of Hamm made important decisions regarding the budget, climate protection, and transportation. Find out what is relevant for you as a citizen.

Secure Budget – More Green Spaces – Better Mobility

What was important this month

  • Budget security for the future: The budget for 2026/2027 was adopted – with investments in sports, aging, and climate protection.
  • More green in the city: New climate stations and textile recycling containers in Uentrop promote environmental awareness.
  • Better routes through the city: Traffic regulations and cycle path development in Herringen and Rhynern improve mobility.
  • Reduced crime: Crimes in Hamm decreased by 7.45% – safety is on the rise.
  • Social support: Funding for debt counseling and intercultural projects strengthens the social climate.

Budget and Investments: Planning for the Future

The budget for 2026/2027 was unanimously or with a large majority adopted in the responsible committees. A total of 2.17 million euros is planned for investments in urban development, with a focus on the renovation of the youth guest house Sylverberg and the action plan "Aging in Hamm!".

In addition, 100,000 euros each was allocated for investments in the districts of Uentrop, Herringen, and Rhynern. The budget also includes funding for social projects, such as debt counseling with 145,620 euros or the Intercultural Education and Encounter Center (IBBZ) with 15,090 euros in subsidies.

Climate Protection and Green Spaces: The City is Becoming Greener

In March, several projects for climate adaptation and environmental improvement were decided. The Heat Action Plan was unanimously adopted in several districts, with the city of Hamm contributing 15,000 euros. In Uentrop, green climate stations are being created as part of a district budget project, and it is being examined how the school path bridge can be illuminated to create more security and a better atmosphere.

In addition, it was decided to install glass and textile recycling containers at the DRK Senior Home in Uentrop. These measures help make Hamm more climate-friendly and livable – especially in times of rising temperatures and resource consumption.

Mobility and Safety: Better Routes, Less Crime

The city of Hamm has worked for more safety and better mobility in March. Traffic regulations on important streets in Herringen and Rhynern were decided, including the Herringer Weg and the Caldenhofer Weg. In addition, adjustments to bicycle traffic were decided to make cycling safer and more attractive.

The crime statistics also brought good news: in 2025, the number of crimes decreased by 7.45% to 17,899. The clearance rate was at a record high of 58.98%. In addition, the modernization of the fire department control center was unanimously decided, which further improves safety in the city.

Outlook: Approval in the City Council, Continuation in the Summer

The topics decided in the committees will be finalized in the Hamm City Council on March 24, 2026. Afterwards, projects such as the renovation of the youth guest house Sylverberg or the construction of climate stations in Uentrop can be implemented. In summer 2026, the action plan "Aging in Hamm!" for the years 2027–2029 will also be concretized, with a budget of 3,059 million euros.

Hamm is moving towards more safety, sustainability, and closeness to citizens – not only in numbers but also in implementation. The decisions of March 2026 show that Hamm is actively committed to a livable future.
