Dinslaken is investing in the future of sports – Expansion of the sports infrastructure in the region

In March 2026, the city of Dinslaken is increasing its investments in sports development. The construction of a new multi-purpose sports hall at the Ernst-Barlach-Gesamtschule and the continuation of the sports development plan mark central decisions. At the same time, the utilization of football fields is being analyzed to ensure long-term planning for club sports and school sports.

Dinslaken is investing in the future of sports

The city of Dinslaken has established itself in recent years as an active player in the field of sports development. With the increasing demand for sports facilities – especially in school sports and clubs – the expansion of the sports infrastructure is becoming increasingly central. In March 2026, several decisions were in the spotlight that will shape the future of sports in Dinslaken.

Construction of a new multi-purpose sports hall at the Ernst-Barlach-Gesamtschule

The construction of a new multi-purpose sports hall at the Ernst-Barlach-Gesamtschule (Scharnhorststraße) is a milestone in Dinslaken’s sports policy. The existing hall no longer meets current functional and safety requirements. Additionally, the demand for hall units (HE) has increased from the current 28.5 to 35.5 HE in the future. With the construction of the new multi-purpose hall, a central gap in school sports will be closed.

The planning is being carried out by ProZent GmbH, and the costs for demolition and construction are included in the 2026 budget. The measure was originally budgeted in the 2023 budget but had to be temporarily postponed due to the financial situation. With the resumption of planning and the support of the federal investment boost (over 28 million euros for Dinslaken), a decisive step into the future has now been taken.

Continuation of the Sports Development Plan

The sports development plan (SPEP) is the central basis for long-term planning in the areas of school sports and club sports. Dinslaken submitted the final report on the continuation of the SPEP in March 2026. In addition, the administration prepared a supplementary utilization calculation for the football fields at district sports facilities (BSA).

The current winter utilization rate is 81 percent, and it is expected to increase to 88 percent after the implementation of the recommended measures. The utilization values are based on a reference half-year, with additional capacities available in the summer months. The planning also takes into account the different age groups and training times to enable optimal use of the sports facilities.

Analysis of football field utilization in Dinslaken

The city of Dinslaken has conducted a detailed analysis of the utilization of its football fields. The current list includes several locations such as BSA Volkspark, BSA Augustastraße, BSA Gärtnerstraße, and the Sportpark Voerder Straße. Training times are divided into three shifts (17:00–18:30, 18:30–20:00, 20:00–21:30), and the utilization varies depending on the shift and team size.

The analysis shows that artificial turf fields have a higher relative load capacity than grass or earth fields. In some areas, the conversion to artificial turf is being considered to increase training capacity. The division into shifts and age groups (G- to E-juniors, D- to B-juniors, A-juniors, and seniors) allows for flexible adjustments in the event of overloads.

Outlook: Dinslaken as a model city for sports development

The decisions and plans in March 2026 show that Dinslaken is committed to a sustainable expansion of its sports infrastructure. The construction of the multi-purpose sports hall, the continuation of the sports development plan, and the analysis of football field utilization are steps toward a future-oriented sports policy. With the support of the federal government and the inclusion of external consulting, Dinslaken will not only meet the current demand for sports facilities but also provide long-term planning security for clubs and schools.

In the autumn of 2026, a further continuation of the sports development plan is planned, focusing on new challenges and opportunities. Dinslaken thus demonstrates that sports development can be a central part of local politics – and this with clear visions and sustainable investments.
