The Advisory Board Meets – and Takes Action

On May 29, 2026, a meeting of the Youth Advisory Board for Children's and Youth Participation took place. Although no public agenda items were listed, the meeting resulted in concrete recommendations that attracted attention on multiple levels. Among other things, the participation process for the district concept of Südstadt and the mobile station concept were discussed.

A central recommendation was to inform Bonn schools about participation opportunities. Up to three classes will be given an on-site presentation of the participation process. The administration is also tasked with examining formats for outreach participation, for example along the Poppelsdorfer Allee. In addition, kindergartens in the affected area will be informed about the participation opportunities. Another point was to establish contact with the Integrated Comprehensive School Bonn-Beuel to promote participation there.

Transparent Decision-Making – But with Abstentions

The voting in the meeting shows that not all recommendations passed unanimously. For instance, the recommendation to promote participation on Instagram received six abstentions. The recommendation to address students specifically received four abstentions. The administration is tasked with implementing the participation process for the Südstadt district concept in accordance with the participation concept.

The decisions made by the advisory board in May 2026 show a clear trend: Bonn wants to involve young people not just symbolically, but actively in planning processes.
