Education and Infrastructure in Bocholt – Expansion, Renovation, and Future Visions in March 2026
In March 2026, Bocholt is setting strong impulses in educational planning: from modular construction and roof renovations to the renovation of the town hall. We analyze the most important developments.
Expansion of Educational Infrastructure in Bocholt – A March Full of Impulses
The educational situation in Bocholt is in motion. In March 2026, the city pushed forward a wide range of construction and renovation projects in the educational landscape. These measures not only reflect the high value placed on education in the city, but also demonstrate strategic planning to ensure long-term needs.
School Construction Projects: Modular Expansion for Full-Day Schools
The demand for full-day schools in Bocholt is growing, and the city is responding with practical solutions. Ten room modules were installed at the Grundschulverbund Liebfrauen, providing a total of 180 square meters of space. These modules serve as childcare areas, offices, and backpack storage – a flexible response to the increasing need for after-school care.
At the Hohe Giethorst School, a two-story facility with 228 square meters was constructed to improve the full-day school operations. The modules are temporary until the new Euregio Gymnasium is completed, but they show the city's willingness to address needs promptly.
Renovation Projects: Safety, Accessibility, and Modernization
Renovation work is a central component of Bocholt’s educational policy. At the Arnold-Janssen School, additional emergency staircases were added to create a second escape route – a step that enhances safety and fire protection. At the St.-Bernhard School, former kindergarten containers were converted into VHTS (vocational training) rooms, with sanitary facilities, toilet partitions, flooring, and ceiling panels renewed. These investments highlight the priority of preparing existing buildings for future needs.
Another milestone was the commissioning of the renovated gymnasium hall at the Gesamtschule in January 2026. After comprehensive renovation work, including the roof, heating, and ventilation, the hall is now ready for school and sports use. In addition, new impact protection was installed to increase safety.
Town Hall Renovation: Culture and Infrastructure in Focus
In addition to the schools, the renovation of the town hall is also a central topic. The work is proceeding in several phases, including geothermal drilling, façade work, and the setup of the theater and stage areas. Completion is planned for mid-2027. Although no care bath for people with disabilities is planned, at least a wheelchair-accessible toilet will be installed. The renovation thus combines cultural infrastructure with barrier-free design.
Outlook: Funding Programs and Future Projects
Funding applications for the renovation of the gymnasium halls at the Josefschule and Ludgerus-Schule have been submitted under the SKS program (45%) and the EFRE (80%). The project outlines were submitted in time, but due to high demand, the selection process is delayed. If funding is granted, the gymnasium halls will be renovated by 2028 – another step to strengthen the sports infrastructure in Bocholt.
Overall, Bocholt is showing itself to be a city that understands education and infrastructure as key issues. The measures taken in March 2026 are not only reactive, but set long-term impulses. Whether modular construction, renovation, or planning – Bocholt is investing in the future of its schools and thus in the future of its children.
