Bad Münstereifel April 2026: Youth, Environment, and Remembrance in Focus
In April 2026, Bad Münstereifel focused on youth involvement, road safety, and historical remembrance. The city blog summarizes the most important decisions of the month.
Youth as a Forum, Remembrance as a Place
What was important this month:
- A youth forum was decided as a cost-neutral alternative to the youth advisory board.
- 111,100 euros are available for the digitization of schools.
- A memorial plaque for unknown war victims is planned.
- A working group will be established for safety in the city center.
- The maintenance of urban green spaces will be re-evaluated.
Youth in the Heart of the City
In the Education and Social Affairs Committee, it was unanimously decided to establish a Youth Forum Bad Münstereifel. This forum will serve as a cost-neutral platform to involve young people more strongly in local processes. There will be no elections, no compensation, no new positions. Instead, the forum will be voluntarily moderated and will have cross-committee speaking rights, when topics are of particular interest to children and youth.
A special project the forum will implement is the development of „Legal Walls“ – officially designated areas for creative graffiti. The goal is to reduce vandalism while simultaneously strengthening the identification of young people with the city. In the future, the forum will also be involved in topics such as the digitization of schools, where a budget of 111,100 euros has already been approved for the procurement of hardware.
Remembering and Preserving History
Another focus was the installation of a memorial plaque for the unknown victims of World War II. In particular, the crash site of the B17 aircraft in August 1943 is to be commemorated. The cost of the plaque amounts to 3,000 euros, of which 2,000 euros will be covered by a „homeland check“ from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city will cover the remaining 1,000 euros from local funds.
Road Safety and Working Group
In the Committee for Environment, Tourism, and Mobility, topics such as road safety and nature-friendly maintenance of green spaces were in the foreground. The UWV faction submitted proposals regarding the traffic situation in Rönnstraße, Gilsdorfer Weg III, and Brunnenstraße. The administration confirmed that funds for construction measures such as parking pockets are not available, and instead proposed alternative solutions.
At the initiative of the factions, it was decided to establish a working group that will develop a traffic and safety concept for the city center. This concept will be created in close cooperation with the involved parties to create safer and more livable urban spaces.
Nature Conservation and Maintenance
The motion by the faction Bündnis 90/Die Grünen on the maintenance of green spaces on municipal land was noted. The administration presented alternative, nature-friendly maintenance measures. The focus was on the environmental compatibility and long-term sustainability of the maintenance. The goal is to promote biodiversity in the city while keeping costs within limits.
Overview of the Topics
The decisions of April reflect a broad thematic focus: from youth participation through historical remembrance to road safety and environmental planning – Bad Münstereifel is relying on cooperative, citizen-oriented solutions. Particularly noticeable is that many measures are to be implemented without new costs or new positions – a sign of municipal efficiency in a time when budgets are often tight.
At the same time, a desire for greater participation becomes apparent, whether through the youth forum or the working groups for traffic planning. These forms of involvement not only strengthen democracy, but also the sense of community in the city.
Conclusion and Outlook
April 2026 was a month of decisions with a future perspective in Bad Münstereifel. With the youth forum, the memorial plaque, and the working group for road safety, the city has taken concrete steps toward participation, remembrance, and safety. In May, it will now be about concretely implementing these projects and presenting first results. With a strong focus on sustainability and citizen participation, Bad Münstereifel shows itself to be a city that looks to the future.
