April 2026: Bad Vilbel in the Spotlight – Highlights and Decisions
In April 2026, Bad Vilbel addressed important political, cultural, and infrastructural topics. Discover in our monthly review which decisions were made and how they will influence the city.
New Structures, New Paths – Bad Vilbel Gets Organized
In April 2026, Bad Vilbel held a variety of constitutive meetings that defined the city’s new political structure. Local advisory boards, committees, and the city council reorganized themselves to effectively manage the tasks of the coming years.
Elections and New Appointments in the Local Advisory Boards
In all ten districts of Bad Vilbel, new local chairpersons, deputy chairpersons, and secretaries were elected. These elections are a central part of the city’s democratic structure and ensure effective cooperation between citizens and the municipal administration.
- In Massenheim, Irene Utter (CDU) was unanimously reappointed as the new local chairperson. Annette Hielscher (SPD) was elected as deputy chairperson.
- In Heilsberg, a close election took place: Peter Schenk (CDU) was unanimously elected as local chairperson, and Carsten Hauer (SPD) was chosen as deputy chairperson with 6 votes in favor and 3 against.
- In Kernstadt, a new local chairperson was elected, and new secretaries were also appointed. Additionally, bus stops were renamed – a measure intended to simplify daily life for residents.
These new appointments were carried out in accordance with applicable laws and procedural rules and serve as a sign of the stability and transparency of local democracy.
Regional Tangent East: City Council Supports Fast Planning
In April, the Regional Tangent East (RTO) also came into focus. The Planning, Construction, and Environment Committee passed a motion from the FDP faction, which commits the city to accelerate and financially support the planning of the project.
- The city is willing to fund up to 100,000 euros in preliminary planning costs, provided the district and RMV also contribute funds.
- A data package including property and ownership information as well as summaries of protected areas must be created within three months.
- Estimates show that the RTO could save 15 million euros in traffic jam costs annually, reduce 8,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, and decrease 5,000 fewer cars on the roads in the region.
This project is not only a step toward better traffic management but also a contribution to climate neutrality and the relief of infrastructure.
Increased Subsidies for Volunteer Work at the Hessentag
Another important topic was the increase in subsidies for associations and non-profit organizations that volunteered at the Hessentag 2025. A motion by city councilor Michael Wolf was submitted and is scheduled for discussion in the Main and Finance Committee.
- It is planned to temporarily increase regular subsidies by 50% to honor the voluntary efforts.
- The motion was submitted on 01.19.2026 and announced on 04.23.2026.
This shows the recognition of the work of many volunteers in Bad Vilbel – a pillar of the city's community.
Impact on the Future of the City
The decisions made in April 2026 have far-reaching consequences:
- The new local chairpersons and committees now bear responsibility for local politics.
- The planning of the Regional Tangent East could significantly improve the traffic situation in the region in the coming years.
- The increase in subsidies for volunteer work strengthens the city’s social infrastructure.
Outlook: What's Coming in May?
May will be exciting: The Main and Finance Committee will discuss the motion regarding the increase in subsidies. In addition, further meetings on the Regional Tangent East are planned to define specific planning steps. The new local advisory boards will also begin their work and launch their first initiatives.
