Community in Motion: April 2026 in Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf
What Was Important This Month
- The youth club is moving into the former Fire Station North – a new meeting place for young people is emerging.
- Building E on the school campus is being further developed into the “House of Reading, Art, and Encounter.”
- Waldstraße 26 and Posentsche Straße 61A are available for sale after the last tenants have moved out.
- The Community Center, a combined facility for the library and meeting area, as well as the youth club, will be rebuilt in the coming years.
- The Mayor will conduct a cost-benefit analysis for future building projects by the end of the third quarter of 2026.
Building Renovations and Usage Concepts
The municipal council and various committees have intensively discussed the future use of municipal properties. A key focus was the repurposing and sale of vacant buildings to distribute resources wisely and create new functions for the population.
The property at Waldstraße 26 will be sold after the last tenant moves out – a decision made unanimously with 8 yes votes. Likewise, Posentsche Straße 61A is available for sale, although only after the renovation is completed and the heritage protection status for Building 1 has been confirmed.
A central issue was also the repurposing of the Fire Station in Fredersdorf-North. After coordination in several committees, it was decided to convert the building into a Community and Settlers’ Center. Additionally, the Youth Club will be housed in this building, allowing young people to shape the space independently under professional guidance.
Planning for the Future: New Buildings and Construction Timelines
The community has adopted ambitious construction plans for the coming years. The Community Center will be rebuilt in the zoning area 1 (Wankelstraße) between 2027 and 2031. A combined building for the Library and Community Center will be constructed on the current community center site (Brückenstraße) and will be in operation starting in 2033. Additionally, the new Youth Club building is planned for the period 2029–2030.
These projects are part of an overall building strategy that also includes feasibility studies up to 2026. The Mayor will conduct a cost-benefit analysis by the end of the third quarter of 2026 to plan future projects more precisely.
Financial Planning and Legal Framework
The community has also made important financial decisions. The First Amendment to the Special Use and Fee Ordinance was enacted retroactively from January 1, 2026, based on the annex dated March 20, 2026. Furthermore, the New Version of the Project Funding Guidelines (Project-FöRiLi) was adopted, explicitly mentioning the Senior and Citizen Advisory Boards.
Financial foundations for the decisions were provided, among others, by § 16 (3) of the Brandenburg Municipal Childcare Act (KitaG Bbg), § 80 of the Brandenburg Municipal Constitution, and § 10 (5) of the Community’s Basic Ordinance. The audited Financial Statement 2024 was adopted as a basis for the budgetary management starting in 2025, and the head administrative officer Thomas Krieger was released from responsibility regarding the annual accounts.
Overview: Coordination and Cooperation
It is notable how often coordination and joint meetings were emphasized in the committees. The Committee for Education, Social Affairs, and Public Order (BiSO) repeatedly recommended organizing joint special committee sessions with other bodies to thoroughly discuss the agenda item 10 on the use of municipal buildings and grounds.
This approach shows that the municipality is intentionally pursuing transparent and participatory decision-making. Moreover, several proposals were postponed to be discussed in later sessions in combination with other projects – a sign of forward-looking planning.
Conclusion and Outlook
April 2026 has shown in Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf that the community is in motion. Numerous decisions regarding building renovations, usage concepts, and financial planning have been made, which will shape the future of the town. The focus was on the repurposing of vacant buildings, the planning of new meeting places, and financial consolidation.
What remains clear is a clear picture: the community is in the implementation phase. The coming months will show how the adopted projects are concretely realized – and what new challenges may arise in the process.
