February 2026 brought numerous decisions in the areas of mobility, education, culture, and social services in Würzburg. Here is the monthly overview.
Important Topics in Focus: Mobility, Education, and Inclusion

- Public Transport During the Catholic Day: Public transport will be strengthened during the Catholic Day – with increased costs for the tram.

- Inclusive Mobility: A barrier-free crossing of Grombühlstraße has been requested and is in the implementation phase.
- Funding for Cultural Projects: More than 450,000 euros were approved for theater, associations, and the Africa Festival.
- New Regulation for the Senior Advisory Council: The Senior Advisory Council is being newly regulated, with clear rules on its composition and responsibilities.
Mobility and Environment: Noise Protection and Better Traffic Conditions
In February 2026, the second revision of the Noise Action Plan was approved. This plan includes measures to reduce noise pollution in the city. The city of Würzburg took into account 76 citizen contributions as well as statements from expert services. The measures will be implemented step by step in the coming years, with new noise maps and a third revision planned for 2027 and 2028.
In addition, an enhanced public transport schedule during the Catholic Day 2026 was approved. This means that Würzburg Tram GmbH will face a deficit of approximately 150,000 euros. Nevertheless, public transport will be significantly improved during the region's largest folk festival to ensure the mobility of visitors.
Education: Support Programs and School Portraits
In the School and Sports Committee, several educational projects were funded. The KuBiKo funding supported 27 projects with a total of 27,000 euros, which amounts to about 1,000 euros per project. These projects were selected from 39 submitted applications and are planned for implementation in 2026.
In addition, the Würzburg Education Office plans a new SMV course with a peer-to-peer approach for November 2026. Teacher training such as "MINTeinander" is planned again for 2027, and the calendar for young researchers will be distributed at schools on a semi-annual basis.
Another important project is the creation of Würzburg School Portraits, which will be completed in 2026 and subsequently updated on a biannual basis. These portraits will be made available digitally via the city's Open Data Portal.
Culture and Social Affairs: Funding, Inclusion, and New Structures
In the Cultural Committee, more than 450,000 euros were approved for cultural projects. Among others, the Afro Project e.V. received a grant of 28,000 euros for the Africa Festival 2026, which will take place indoors at the CCW. In addition, 186,450 euros were awarded to theater groups and 270,900 euros to cultural associations, including support for associations without their own performance venues.
In the Social Committee, the new version of the Senior Advisory Council regulation was unanimously approved. This regulation defines the composition of the council and stipulates that three representatives from semi-residential and residential elderly care facilities will be appointed to the council. The Senior Advisory Council will now be independent, voluntary, and will provide advisory services in areas such as inclusion, participation, and integration.
Cross-connections: Integration in Politics and the City
A clear trend in February 2026 was the increasing emphasis on inclusion and barrier-free access. The construction of a signaled and barrier-free crossing at Grombühlstraße, as well as the installation of a digital passenger information system at the Brombergweg tram stop, shows how the city of Würzburg is making its transport infrastructure more accessible to all citizens.
In cultural policy as well, inclusion is being addressed. The MiK gastronomy area concept is being revised due to tax and administrative issues as well as the "club dying" phenomenon in Germany, which complicates weekend use during the winter months. A survey of the mood in the Cultural Committee has already been conducted.
Summary and Outlook
February 2026 was a month of planning, inclusion, and cultural support in Würzburg. The city is implementing a broad range of measures to improve the quality of life for its citizens – whether through better traffic conditions, more education, or greater inclusion of seniors and people with disabilities.
It will become clear in March 2026 how far the approved measures can be implemented. The city of Würzburg remains committed to acting transparently, citizen-oriented, and future-oriented.
