Nuremberg in March 2026: Traffic, Climate, and Structural Development
In March 2026, Nuremberg focused intensively on topics such as traffic development, climate protection, municipal financial planning, and cultural promotion. This blog summarizes the most important decisions and developments for the citizens of Nuremberg.
Urban Development in March 2026: Traffic, Culture, and Climate in the Spotlight
What Was Important This Month
- The subway station Hasenbuck will receive a second entrance to improve access to the new district of Lichtenreuth.
- Over 112,000 euros were approved for cultural projects, including concerts and exhibitions.
- The Climate Advisory Board is receiving a new regulation to enhance its role in the city’s climate policy.
- The Special Fund for Energy Shortages has been closed, with 3.8 million euros used to promote energy savings.
- In the bureaucracy sector, a new job profile for administrative positions was introduced to better access the labor market.
Traffic Development: Safety and Infrastructure
The Transportation Committee approved several measures in March to improve traffic safety and infrastructure. The Hasenbuck subway station will gain a second entrance to optimize escape routes and improve access from Lichtenreuth. In addition, several road construction projects were approved, including the Kreuzsteinstraße, the Nerzstraße, the Eichendorffstraße, and the Regensburger Straße, with a focus on cyclists.
The city is also investing in improved bicycle counting technology: 12 devices have already been installed, but two are currently out of service due to construction work. The evaluation of the data will help analyze and plan traffic development more effectively in the coming months.
Culture: Support and Diversity
The Culture Committee approved 10 cultural projects totaling 112,000 euros. These include concerts by the Sunday Night Orchestra, exhibitions by the Bernsteinzimmer Gallery, and projects by the Artist Group Der Kreis e.V.. The funding highlights the importance of cultural diversity in Nuremberg and demonstrates how the city supports creative initiatives.
In addition, the City Council approved the second Action Plan "Queer Nuremberg – Strong Through Diversity", developed in close cooperation with LSGBTIQ* organizations and experts. The plan includes four guiding principles: sensitization in the administration, opening up services to LSGBTIQ* individuals, increasing visibility and networking, and strengthening community structures.
Climate Protection and Environment
The Environmental Committee decided to issue the Climate Advisory Board Regulation, which will integrate the Climate Advisory Board more strongly into urban planning. In addition, a Climate Scenario 2035 was initiated, which will be revised in the next budgeting cycle. For this, 15,000 euros are requested for 2027.
A report on the Greenhouse Gas Inventory 2024 was also presented, showing how the city is progressing in climate protection and where further action is needed. The Tiger Mosquito Strategy, proposed by a CSU motion, was also discussed. Although exact costs are not yet known, the city will prepare for the control of these pests.
Finances and Personnel: Structural Adjustments
In the Elder Committee and Finance Committee, the possibility of using Municipal Holding Company Loans within the framework of the planned Bavarian Model Region Act was examined. In addition, a new job profile for administrative positions was approved, which will allow applicants with vocational training but no formal degree to apply. This is intended to speed up staffing and bring more diversity into the administration.
Outlook and Conclusion
March 2026 was marked by concrete steps toward climate-friendly urban development, traffic safety, and cultural diversity. The city is relying on innovation and participation to improve citizens’ quality of life and prepare for the future. In April, the Climate Advisory Board will be appointed to the City Council, and the traffic infrastructure projects will move into implementation. It remains important for citizens to stay informed and participate in the discussions.
