Kirchheim in March 2026: Construction, Budget, and Traffic in the Spotlight

In March 2026, Kirchheim made important decisions regarding construction planning, the municipal budget, and traffic. Here is a monthly review.

Construction and Traffic: Decisions with Long-Term Effects

In March 2026, Kirchheim made a series of central decisions in the Construction Committee that will influence the future of the town center and traffic. The approval of a semi-detached house in Keltenstraße was passed unanimously with conditions, including a urban development agreement under the SoBoN model. This model aims at social mixing and sustainability and is considered a pilot project in Kirchheim.

Another focus was on promoting cycling. The municipal council passed a principle decision to increase the share of cycling in local traffic to 45% and in overall traffic to 29% by 2032. This is a milestone in the municipal climate policy and is supported by additional measures such as safety audits and structural improvements.

In addition, a ban on motor vehicles entering the village street at the height of the Old Forge was decided. Agricultural traffic is exempt from this. This is a step toward traffic relief and the promotion of livable neighborhoods.

Budget and Finance: Challenges and Investments

The Main Committee approved the administrative budget for 2026 in the amount of 53.49 million euros in March. Additional income comes, among other things, from tax increases and fee adjustments, while additional expenses are mainly due to an increased district levy.

In the asset budget, a deficit of around 3.6 million euros is planned, financed through loans and revenues from land sales. The financial plan for 2026–2029 foresees increasing loan takeovers and contributions to reserves. The total debt of the municipality is estimated to rise to about 76 million euros by 2029.

The municipality is also investing in social infrastructure: A local senior citizens' concept will be implemented in two years in six modules, including public opinion surveys and workshops. The costs amount to around 12,500 euros.

Construction Planning and Environment: Safety and Sustainability

Important construction planning decisions were made in the municipal council. The Zoning Plan 57/H was passed, providing for the second amendment of the industrial area east of Ammerthalstraße. The planning was carried out in accordance with § 10 of the Municipal Planning Act.

A safety audit for the bike path on the northern Heimstettener Moosweg revealed several planning deficiencies, which were subsequently corrected. The award of the contract for the reconstruction was passed unanimously.

In addition, it was decided that the use of de-icing salt on municipal roads will follow a winter service plan, with the decision left to the winter service drivers. These drivers receive annual training to minimize environmental impact.

Broader Trends: Sustainability and Participation

A central trend in March 2026 is the strengthening of sustainability and participation. The municipality is investing in climate protection through the expansion of cycling, promoting social mixing through the SoBoN model, and taking citizens' opinions into account in planning, such as in the senior citizens' concept.

In addition, transparency in financial planning becomes evident: The municipality is ready to openly communicate its loan takeovers and investments, which strengthens trust.

Conclusion and Outlook

March 2026 was marked in Kirchheim by decisions in the areas of construction, finances, and traffic. The municipality is focusing on sustainability, social mixing, and traffic safety. In April, the focus will shift to the implementation of the approved projects: The construction of the new town hall and the gymnasium is in full swing, and citizen participation remains a central issue.
