Fürth's Financial Policy in February 2026: Budget Decisions, Investments, and Challenges

In February 2026, Fürth made key budget decisions and investments. The Finance and Administration Committee approved funds for the renovation of city parks, infrastructure expansion, and the continuation of educational programs. At the same time, the city had to demonstrate its stabilization aid under conditions. This blog provides an analysis of the most important decisions and their significance.

Fürth's Financial and Budget Policy in February 2026: A Summary of the Key Decisions

In February 2026, the Finance and Administration Committee of the city of Fürth discussed and passed a number of decisions that will have both short-term and long-term effects on the city’s financial planning and infrastructure. The meeting on 25.02.2026 marked a milestone in the city’s budget planning and investment strategy, with several million euros being allocated to projects that will shape the daily lives of Fürth’s residents in the coming years.

Transfer of Budget Surpluses and Investment Approvals

A central topic was the transfer of budget surpluses in the asset budget for 2025/2026. Here, expenditure surpluses (HAR) of 60,072,180 euros and revenue surpluses (HER) of 7,895,430 euros were transferred. This decision underlines the city’s financial prudence and the need to set aside funds for future projects.

In addition, unplanned funds of 1.45 million euros were made available for the expansion of the compost site in Burgfarrnbach. The total cost of the measure thus increased to 8.15 million euros. This investment boost is part of the city’s strategy to create environmentally friendly infrastructure and use resources efficiently.

Another 70,000 euros were approved for the renovation of Schillerallee City Park and 250,000 euros for the new cycle and pedestrian paths in Scherbsgraben. These projects show the city's focus on leisure, mobility, and barrier-free infrastructure.

Education and Childcare: Continuation of the Further Education Concept

Another key topic was the continuation of the modular further education concept for childcare. The Finance and Administration Committee approved the allocation of budget funds of 290,000 euros for 2026 and 2027. These funds will be used for the training of assistants, the financing of multipliers, and advertising campaigns.

Additionally, an equipment grant was approved for existing after-school care (Hort) places run by independent providers. A total of 1,358,662 euros are planned for 634 after-school care places, with the city’s share amounting to 407,662 euros. This investment is part of the state funding program "Ganztagsausbau" (Full-Day Expansion) and emphasizes the importance of primary school childcare in Fürth.

Stabilization Aid and Budget Consolidation

In 2025, the city of Fürth received stabilization aid of 1.5 million euros (Column 2), which, however, was subject to conditions. The city must submit evidence of compliance with these conditions by March 31, 2026, including an updated budget consolidation concept and a statement on credit authorizations and reserve holdings.

These measures are not only crucial for applying for further stabilization aid in 2026 but also a signal that the city must demonstrate its financial discipline. The City Council and the Finance and Administration Committee unanimously decided to update the budget consolidation concept and submit the documents to the supervisory authority.

Unanimous Decisions and Political Unity

A remarkable aspect of the meeting was the unanimous approval of most decisions. Whether it was the funding for the compost site, the renovation of the city park, or the continuation of the further education concept – the voting results showed a high degree of political unity. This is a positive signal for city planning and shows that priorities are clearly defined and supported by the various factions.

Outlook: Challenges and Opportunities for 2026

In the coming months, it will mainly depend on how the approved funds are used. Projects in the areas of environment, education, and infrastructure must be carefully implemented to achieve their intended effects. At the same time, it must be possible to prove the stabilization aid to avoid financial difficulties in 2026.

Fürth has demonstrated in February 2026 that it is capable of combining short-term investments with long-term planning. The political unity and clear prioritization of projects give reason to hope that the city will continue to pursue a sustainable financial policy in the years to come.
