Drinking Water and Climate Protection: Gottenheim Invests in the Future
March 2026 marks a milestone in Gottenheim's climate protection and infrastructure policy. With the installation of two modern drinking fountains at the village square and on the Au playground, the municipality is not only making a statement for sustainability but also improving access to clean drinking water. Each fountain is supported by 5,000 euros from the state funding program Klimopass, making climate action visibly tangible on-site. The total cost of 10,000 euros is thus well invested in a climate-friendly future.
At the same time, it was decided to cooperate with other municipalities in the Eastern Kaiserstuhl to commission a feasibility study on water supply. With a total contribution of 8,000 to 9,500 euros from Gottenheim, the municipality is actively involved in regional planning processes. This initiative is a step toward long-term water supply security and underlines Gottenheim's commitment to sustainable resource planning.
School Construction: Ventilation and Heating are Being Replaced
Gottenheim Primary School will undergo a complete replacement of its ventilation and heating systems. The company Fischer Rickhoff has been commissioned to carry out performance phases 1 to 3. This will not only enhance the school's energy efficiency but also significantly improve the learning environment for children. The investment in modern technology is a clear signal of the future-readiness of Gottenheim's educational infrastructure.
Flood Protection: Security Through Prevention
In response to the impacts of climate change, Gottenheim has decided to implement additional measures to improve flood protection. The goal is to reach the protection level HQ 100, which means the municipality is preparing for an event that occurs once every 100 years. The cost for these measures amounts to 13,345.50 euros, with 30% covered by the municipality. This investment is a shield for the future – particularly for the safety of residents in vulnerable areas.
Regional Cooperation as the Key to the Future
A particular focus this month was placed on regional cooperation. Through collaboration with neighboring municipalities of Bötzingen, Eichstetten, March, and Umkirch, Gottenheim demonstrates how forward-looking planning and joint solutions in the region are essential. The feasibility study on water supply is an example of how interconnected thinking and action can address complex challenges such as water scarcity or quality assurance.
Outlook: Sustainability and Security in Focus
March 2026 has shown that Gottenheim is actively investing in the future on multiple levels – in climate protection, education, and security. The approved projects are not only visible milestones but also long-term investments in the quality of life for residents. In April, the focus will shift to initiating the first construction measures and developing concrete plans for regional water supply.
