Social Services and Housing in Kronshagen: Focus on Seniors, Refugees, and Neighborhood Support

The community of Kronshagen is actively working to ensure social services – particularly for seniors and refugees. In February 2026, various initiatives and political decisions were evident that aim to strengthen social structures and improve housing availability. Central to these efforts were the Senior Advisory Council, the initiative "Wohnwerk," and the expansion of neighborhood support.

Senior Advisory Council: Events, Neighborhood Support, and Future Perspectives

The Senior Advisory Council of the community of Kronshagen met on 11.02.2026 at the civic center and discussed several topics of great importance to the seniors in the community. A central focus was the planned events, including the "Platt und Punsch" event with the band Godewind, which had already taken place in January, and a consultation event for people with visual impairments on 12.03.2026.

In addition, the project "Neighborhood Support" was discussed, which aims to provide better support for seniors in need. The council members expressed support for initiating a new voluntary initiative with volunteer helpers after the monthly game meeting of the AWO was discontinued. At the same time, it is planned to schedule the introduction of candidates for the Senior Advisory Council election in the evening to include working seniors as well.

The constitutive session of the new Senior Advisory Council is scheduled for 07.10.2026. Nomination proposals must be submitted by 17.07.2026.

Housing for Refugees: Challenges and Initiatives

Another central topic was the housing situation for refugees. As of 04.02.2026, a total of 137 people seeking protection were living in the community's accommodations, including 59 from Ukraine. The initiative "Wohnwerk" is being reviewed to enable better housing placement for refugees. Due to a staff change, the exchange was initially delayed, but with a new contact person, cooperation has continued.

It was also reported that the funding for the project was limited until 31.12.2025. With support from the district, the initiative is to be continued in 2026, as housing for refugees remains a challenge. Especially families with several children are facing limits, as the regional housing market is highly strained.

Christmas Activities 2025: Success and Outlook

In December 2025, several Christmas activities took place in the community, organized by various organizations such as the DRK, AWO, and the Naeve Foundation. The Christmas party of the Senior Advisory Council was once again organized in cooperation with the Evangelical Lutheran Christusgemeinde and attracted around 80 guests. A wish tree campaign at the town hall enabled financially restricted individuals to anonymously fulfill Christmas wishes.

For 2026, the plan is to promote the activities more intensively and also announce them in other media such as the Sportspiegel Kronshagen. In addition, the wish tree campaign will be conducted again by Dr. Silke Umlauff to bring Christmas joy to as many people as possible.

Film Cafés and Cultural Offers for Seniors

Cultural offers for seniors also played a role. The Senior Advisory Council organized five film cafés in 2025 at the civic center, attended by a total of around 340 people. The events took place on Monday afternoons and were supported by coffee and cake as well as volunteers. Four film cafés are planned for 2026, including dates in March, April, October, and November.

The film cafés are part of a broader strategy to strengthen seniors in the community and promote social contacts. The events are financially supported, and the restriction on the funds has been lifted.

Conclusion: Stabilizing Social Structures in Kronshagen

The community of Kronshagen is committed in its policies to social services and housing. The Senior Advisory Council is setting impulses through cultural events and volunteer support, while the initiative "Wohnwerk" is showing new ways for refugees. Neighborhood support and the strengthening of volunteer structures are central elements to improve quality of life in old age and in integration.

In the coming months, it will be important to implement the planned projects and deepen cooperation with other organizations. The challenges on the housing market and in integration remain, but the political will in the community indicates a constructive development.
