Harrislee: Monthly Review March 2026 – What Has Changed
In March 2026, Harrislee made important decisions in the areas of finance, education, urban development, and infrastructure. Here is an overview of what is relevant for residents.
What Was Important This Month
- Second Home Tax to Start in 2027: After in-depth discussions, Harrislee has decided to introduce a second home tax starting in 2027 – a step toward better funding of municipal services.
- Holmberg Urban Development Advanced: The budget for the Holmberg urban development initiative was approved with an annual allocation of 10,000 Euros.
- New Fee Regulation for School Rooms: The use of school rooms outside of school hours is being regulated anew – generating higher revenues for the municipality.
- LED Lighting for Harrislee: In March, the plan was approved to retrofit 309 light points to LED – resulting in lower long-term costs and greater sustainability.
- Healthy Breakfast at Central School: The initiative will continue, although a free fruit offer is being considered as an alternative to reduce monthly costs of 600 to 700 Euros.
Finance and Budget: Security and Tax Planning
In March, financial issues were high on the agenda. The Finance Committee decided that Harrislee will introduce a second home tax starting on 01.01.2027 – a measure initiated by the Main Committee in September 2025. This tax will help relieve the municipal budget, especially in times of rising investment needs.
The 2026 Financial Equalization was also addressed. Harrislee received a base payment of 1,590.80 Euros and additional funds of 274,848 Euros for suburban centers. The budget development remained stable, with investments postponed to 2026. In addition, the deadline for the § 2 b Value Added Tax Act was extended until the end of 2026 – a measure to ensure tax flexibility.
Education, Sports and Social Affairs: For the Future of the Children
The Committee for Education, Sports and Social Affairs made several decisions directly affecting the quality of life for the youngest residents of Harrislee. It was decided to continue the Healthy Breakfast program at the Central School. However, a free fruit offer is being considered as an alternative to reduce monthly costs from 600 to 700 Euros.
Additionally, the application from the Sydslesvig Danske Ungdomsforeninger (SdU) for support for open youth and child work was approved – with a grant of 10,000 Euros for 2025. For the future, a municipal contribution of 30% is planned.
Urban Planning and Infrastructure: Harrislee Becomes More Modern
Another focus was on infrastructure and urban development. The Building Committee decided to address the urban development west of the Bürgermeister-Iversen Bridge and to prepare a B-plan with access planning. In addition, the conversion of street lighting to LED was approved. With 309 light points, total costs are expected to amount to 117,274.12 Euros – 88,884.15 Euros more than the alternative with head change.
As part of the municipal heating and cooling plan, it was also decided to expand the district heating network in the areas of Am Oxer and Petersilienweg. The planning was carried out by the firm Zeiten°Grad from Kiel and is a step toward climate neutrality.
Cross-Subjects: Sustainability and Civic Participation
In March 2026, several topics were central across the board. For example, a defibrillator was installed at the Danish school – a measure recommended by the volunteer coordinator. In addition, the Main Committee issued a recommendation on responsibility under § 36 a Building Code to the Building Committee, improving transparency and efficiency in urban planning decisions.
The Day of Volunteers and the Spring Cleaning were also discussed – two initiatives that show Harrislee as a community close to its residents.
Conclusion and Outlook
March 2026 in Harrislee was marked by concrete decisions that secure the future of the municipality and improve the quality of life for its residents. From the introduction of the second home tax to the modernization of infrastructure – Harrislee is moving toward sustainability, transparency, and civic participation. In April, the Day of Volunteers and the implementation of the new fee regulations will be the focus.
