Education Policy in Harrislee: What Was Decided in March 2026
In March 2026, Harrislee focused on several educational policy topics. The Committee for Education, Sports, and Social Affairs made decisions regarding the use of school facilities, funding for youth activities, and the continuation of the healthy breakfast program at the Central School.
Education and Public Facilities in Focus at the March Meeting
Education policy in Harrislee has become increasingly dynamic in recent months. In March 2026, the Committee for Education, Sports, and Social Affairs discussed several key topics affecting both schools and extracurricular youth work. With an updated fee regulation for the use of school facilities, new funding models for open youth work, and the continuation of the "Healthy Breakfast" program at the Central School, important steps were taken toward shaping the future of education in Harrislee.
Update to the Fee Regulation for School Facilities
One of the most significant changes in the March meeting concerned the fee regulation for the extracurricular use of school rooms and sports facilities. Following a comprehensive revision, a new fee schedule was approved, taking into account price increases and spatial changes. In addition, a flat daily rate was introduced alongside the existing hourly rates.
These adjustments are necessary to ensure the financial sustainability of the facilities. In the future, associations, sports groups, and other third parties will receive more transparent and fair information about costs. At the same time, the hall regulations were updated, and new sports field and locker room regulations were developed to regulate usage and prevent conflicts.
Funding for Open Youth Work
Another central topic was the funding of open youth work at the Harrislee Children's and Youth House (BoU). During the meeting, a funding application was discussed, supported by the SSW faction. The faction proposed a municipal contribution of 50% of the verified annual operating costs.
Ultimately, a grant of 10,000 € was approved for 2025. An increase to 30% is planned for 2026. However, decisions for subsequent years will depend on a comparison of the costs of the Danish facility with those of the Children's and Youth House. Since the costs cannot be clearly separated, a more detailed analysis will be necessary before final decisions can be made.
Continuation of the "Healthy Breakfast" at the Central School
The continuation of the "Healthy Breakfast" at the Central School Harrislee was also intensively discussed. The offer, which is served on Monday to Thursday during the first major break in the school cafeteria, has proven successful during the trial phase. On average, about 28 portions were distributed daily, approximately 10 of which went to primary school children.
The costs for the ten-month trial phase amounted to around 6,000 €, including personnel and downtime costs. A municipal subsidy of 1.83 € per portion was paid. If the offer is continued, monthly costs of 600 to 700 € can be expected. As an alternative, a more cost-effective model was proposed, such as a free fruit offer in the cafeteria.
Outlook: Stability and Further Development
The March meeting of the Committee for Education, Sports, and Social Affairs shows that Harrislee is on the way to developing a sustainable and inclusive education policy. The adjustments to the fee regulation, the planned increase in funding for youth work, and the further development of the breakfast offer are first steps in this direction. In the coming months, it will be important to see how these decisions are implemented in practice and whether they are sustainable in the long term.
