Sports Policy in Büdelsdorf: Redefining Sports Facilities and New Offers for Youth

In March 2026, Büdelsdorf made important decisions concerning the future development of sports and leisure facilities and the promotion of physical activities. The focus was on the redesign of the Heisterort sports area, the expansion of tennis offerings, and the promotion of innovative initiatives such as the Pumptrack race.

Sports Facility Development: Options for the Future

The Heisterort sports and leisure area has long been a central meeting point for clubs and residents in Büdelsdorf. Looking ahead to the future use and renovation of the site, five clear options were discussed. The key topics included the use of the soccer and basketball fields, as well as the question of whether these areas should be fully or partially leased to the Büdelsdorfer Tennisclub (BTC).

  • Option A involves a complete lease to the BTC.
  • Option B suggests a partial lease with an additional new layout.
  • Option C entails a complete redesign of the existing fields.
  • Option D proposes leasing the soccer and basketball fields while redesigning the E-field, a move criticized by clubs.
  • Option E suggests a complete redesign of both areas.

The decision will be made by a committee, with safety aspects, costs, and the impact on club sports being central to the evaluation.

Tennis Club BTC: Seeking Additional Courts

The BTC, now with 400 members, is facing capacity constraints. The former fields 8 and 9 at the Heisterort sports area are considered an ideal expansion site. A lease would mean the city would no longer bear long-term maintenance costs, while the BTC would gain additional training and match capacities. Furthermore, the club promotes social integration and youth work, with over 100 children and young people regularly involved. A modern tennis infrastructure also enhances the city's attractiveness.

Pumptrack Race: A New Impulse for Youth

Another highlight in March was the application for a grant to host a Pumptrack race of the German Pumptrack Series on September 5, 2026. The event, organized by the StreetGrown e.V., is part of a statewide format and will be held in Büdelsdorf for the first time. With up to 300 young participants and a family-friendly program, the event is not only sport-related but also socially and tourism-relevant. The city approved a grant of 1,050 euros, covering 30 percent of the total costs.

Swimming Pool: A Success Story with a Future

Although the swimming pool was not the focus of the March meetings, the development of Freibad Büdelsdorf GmbH as an independent operator is a milestone. Since 2004, the company has operated the swimming pool independently and is planning a redesign into a natural experience pool. At the time, the city approved a grant of up to 400,000 euros to cover the renovation costs. This model demonstrates how a cooperative and economically sustainable solution can work – a model for future projects.

Outlook: Future-Oriented Sports Policy in Büdelsdorf

The decisions made in March 2026 show that Büdelsdorf is actively working to ensure the future viability of its sports infrastructure. Whether it's tennis, youth programs, or new leisure formats – the city is committed to a diverse and inclusive sports policy. The discussions around the Heisterort sports area also highlight the challenges that arise during redesign. Clubs, safety issues, and funding are central topics that must be further addressed in the coming months.
