Culture and Community in Pirna: New Impulses for Cultural Life

In March 2026, the city of Pirna has decided on key measures in the field of culture and community. From the use of a historic hotel for cultural events to the development of a new event concept – the city is laying the foundation for a vibrant and forward-looking cultural offering.

Culture as a Central Driver for Pirna's Future

In March 2026, the city of Pirna has committed itself to strengthening cultural life on multiple levels. Culture is not only an offering but also a central factor for identity, tourism, and social integration. With a variety of decisions, the city council has shown that culture is a strategic element of urban development – both within the framework of the vision "Pirna 2030" and in the concrete implementation of projects.

Use of the Historic Hall of the Hotel "Schwarzer Adler"

A central point of the March meetings was the decision to use the historic hall of the newly emerging Hotel "Schwarzer Adler" for cultural events. The city council has approved a 10-year lease agreement with 46 annual usages, at a net rental price of 3,000 EUR per event. This step is to be understood as a response to the lack of cultural offerings in Pirna.

The Culture and Tourism Company Pirna mbH (KTP) sees great potential in this hall to expand the city's cultural offerings. With up to 46 additional events per year, Pirna can not only address the local population but also attract tourists. The Mayor is tasked with negotiating the lease agreement with the investor and submitting it to the city council for approval.

Development of a New Event Concept

In addition to the use of the historic hall, the city council decided to develop a comprehensive event concept aimed at strengthening the city's cultural offerings in the long term. This concept will be developed together with the Culture and Tourism Company Pirna mbH (KTP) and is part of the "Strategy 40,000+".

The goal is clear: Pirna should remain an attractive cultural center in the Dresden region and beyond. The event concept is to strengthen not only the infrastructure but also the program offering. Events in the fields of international classics, theater, literature, gala/revue, and acrobatics/culinary arts are planned. With this broad spectrum, Pirna wants to diversify cultural life and at the same time boost tourism.

Support for the Music School and Investment in Cultural Infrastructure

Another focus was the support for the Music School Sächsische Schweiz e.V. with a total grant of 90,000 EUR for the year 2026. Of this, 80,391.51 EUR is allocated to the local share and 9,608.49 EUR to voluntary grants for supplementary subjects, ensemble work, and projects. This investment is a sign of the importance of cultural education in Pirna.

In addition, measures for the expansion and renovation of the Center for Education, Culture, and Social Affairs in Sonnenstein were approved. The contract for the construction work was awarded to Bauson GmbH from Gräfenhainichen. This project is another cornerstone for the cultural development in Pirna – especially in peripheral areas such as Sonnenstein.

Future Concept for Kindergarten Infrastructure in Sonnenstein

Pirna is also relying on forward-looking planning in the kindergarten infrastructure in Sonnenstein. The city council commissioned the administration to develop a future concept together with the providers of non-state youth welfare. The aim is to ensure child care capacity in the long term and to meet the needs of the population. This concept will be integrated into the demand planning for child day care facilities and submitted to the city council for approval.

Outlook: Culture as a Central Field of Action

The decisions from March 2026 show a clear trend: Pirna is investing in culture to make the city more livable and attractive. With a focus on infrastructure, events, and education, the city is relying on a broad cultural offering. This is not only a contribution to urban culture but also a strategic step within the framework of the vision 2030 and regional development.

In the coming months, it will be particularly interesting to observe how the use of the historic hall of the "Schwarzer Adler" establishes itself and how the event concept is concretized. In addition, the funding of KTP via the Service and Participation Company Pirna mbH (SBP) will be decisive for the stability and direction of the cultural offering in the region.
