Street Construction and Urban Development in Coswig: Focus on the 2026 Repair Plan
In February 2026, the Committee for Urban Development and Economic Promotion in Coswig made key decisions regarding the repair plan for public streets. This in-depth blog analyzes the background, funding, prioritization of measures, and the comparison with the surrounding area.
Street Construction in Coswig: What the 2026 Repair Plan Brings
The infrastructure of a city is a key factor for quality of life, economic competitiveness, and sustainability. In February 2026, the 2026 repair plan for public streets, paths, and squares was at the center of administrative focus in Coswig. The plan was reviewed and adopted by the Committee for Urban Development and Economic Promotion. With a total budget of 863,000 EUR, urgent repair work is to be carried out.
Funding and Use of Funds
The funding for the 2026 repair plan consists of several components. It is based on the Saxon Municipal Code (SächsGemO), the Saxon Road Act (SächsStrG), and the Saxon Financial Equalization Act (SächsFAG).
A significant part of the funds, totaling 200,000 EUR, comes from FAG funds available for municipal infrastructure. Additionally, a FAG lump sum of 137,000 EUR is included. Furthermore, reallocations from the municipal budget were implemented, including 226,000 EUR from the street compensation fund and 80,000 EUR for the renovation of Lößnitz Street.
These funds will be used to repair asphalt streets, rehabilitate sand-stabilized paths, and carry out urgent repairs. Both road surfaces and separate cycle paths will be considered, aiming to improve traffic safety and barrier-free accessibility.
Prioritization and Implementation
The implementation of the repair plan takes into account time and financial budgets. Measures that are urgently necessary and affect as many users as possible are prioritized. For projects with a minimum volume, external companies are commissioned to ensure efficiency and quality.
Corinna Oelschläger from the Department of Public Works coordinated and prepared the plan as the responsible officer. The decision was made on February 18, 2026, during the 13th meeting of the Committee for Urban Development and Economic Promotion. The meeting took place at the Coswig Town Hall and was partially open to the public.
Urban Development in Comparison to the Surrounding Area
Another focus of the February meeting was the statistical comparison of Coswig's development with the surrounding areas, particularly within the Dresden Experience Region. Such comparisons are important to assess the city's position in the regional competition and to derive recommendations for action if necessary.
The results of such analyses can, for example, provide insights into growth rates, economic structures, or social indicators. They serve to formulate and review long-term development strategies and to check whether urban development measures are achieving their goals.
Outlook on Future Measures
With the adoption of the 2026 repair plan, Coswig has taken an important step toward improved infrastructure. The measures will be implemented gradually over the coming months, with transparency and public participation remaining central elements. Moreover, it is expected that the results of the statistical comparison could lead to further initiatives to increase the city's attractiveness and meet the demands of the future.
