Youth Policy in Bad Kreuznach: Focus on Kindergartens, Democracy Promotion, and Vocational Orientation
In February 2026, important decisions were made in Bad Kreuznach's Youth Welfare Committee that will shape the future of youth support in the city. Central topics included the funding of kindergartens, support for the Youth Vocational Agency, and the promotion of democratic competencies. This blog provides a comprehensive overview of the discussions and decisions.
Youth Policy in Bad Kreuznach: Kindergartens, Democracy, and Vocational Orientation in Focus
In February 2026, the Youth Welfare Committee (Jugendhilfeausschuss, JHA) of Bad Kreuznach convened a meeting addressing several key topics in youth support. The discussions and decisions reflect the city's current priorities—particularly in the areas of early childhood education, democracy promotion, and vocational orientation. This blog analyzes the most important decisions and background of the meeting on February 25, 2026.
Funding and Future of Kindergartens
Ensuring kindergarten places and providing financial support to providers remained a central topic. Particularly affected is the theater-pedagogical kindergarten "die Brücke," whose lease agreement expires in August 2026. Without financial support from the city, the closure of this facility, which offers 50 kindergarten places and is operated by a Christian provider, is at risk.
To address this, the JHA has approved a proposal for the city to take on a monthly subsidy of 2,500 €. This amount is intended to relieve the provider and allow the facility to remain in operation. At the same time, the issue of equal treatment of non-profit and church-run providers is being discussed. The Katholische Kita gGmbH, which operates three Catholic kindergartens in Bad Kreuznach, is calling for the alignment of funding conditions and participation in existing transitional agreements.
The city, however, refuses to join the transitional agreement and remains committed to its current model. This has led to tensions, as the church-run providers are disadvantaged by the current regulations. The Kita/Sozialraumbudget Working Group will intensively address this issue in the coming weeks.
Youth Vocational Agency: New Structure for Vocational Orientation
Another focus was the introduction of the Youth Vocational Agency (Jugendberufsagentur, JBA) in Bad Kreuznach. With a resolution in principle, the city has agreed to participate in this pilot project. The goal is to provide youth and young adults with individual support, counseling, and promotion at a central advisory office.
The city will invest 1,800 € monthly into the project, covering, among other things, the funding of staff and resources. The JBA is seen as a significant step in vocational policy—especially for youth in disadvantaged situations. A steering group was already established in January 2026 to prepare the implementation.
Democracy Promotion and Committee Work
The Partnership for Democracy in Bad Kreuznach will continue to be supported within the framework of the federal program "Democracy in Action!" This program supports initiatives that strengthen democratic competencies and prevent extremism. In the meeting, it was confirmed that the city will maintain its support and specifically promote projects that integrate young people into political education.
Another topic was the compensation for voluntary committee work in working groups. Members of the working groups are calling for the city to cover travel costs and parking fees. This proposal was discussed, and it is being examined whether a model of compensation can be introduced that accounts for voluntary work in the Youth Welfare Committee.
Outlook and Challenges
The decisions of the JHA in February 2026 show that Bad Kreuznach is actively concerned with the future of youth—particularly in terms of early childhood education, vocational orientation, and democratic participation. At the same time, the funding of kindergartens remains a challenge that will continue to be intensely discussed in the coming months. The question of equal treatment of non-profit and church-run providers remains a central point of contention.
In the future, it will depend on how the city manages the transitions in kindergarten funding and whether it is willing to adjust models when necessary to prevent the closure of kindergartens. The Youth Vocational Agency, on the other hand, could become a pioneering project that prepares youth in Bad Kreuznach for the transition into the world of work.
