Bad Kreuznach: Urban Development in Focus – April 2026
April 2026 was marked by decisive steps in urban development in Bad Kreuznach. From the redesign of the Salinental to new zoning plans and investments in the city's traffic infrastructure – the city is actively advancing on key urban planning issues.
Urban Development in Bad Kreuznach: Impulses in April 2026
In April 2026, the future of urban development was at the center of attention in Bad Kreuznach. Numerous decisions and projects were discussed by the city council and, in some cases, already approved. The focus was on both urban planning initiatives and ecological and social aspects. The city is pursuing sustainable, inclusive, and future-oriented urban planning – a process that is being advanced on multiple levels.
Zoning Plan P 12: A New Business and Residential Area is Being Developed
The city of Bad Kreuznach has developed Zoning Plan P 12, which concerns the area between Federal Highway 428, 41, and the Planig residential area. The goal is to ensure the central supply standard while also taking into account the requirements of the retail concept 2025. The planning area covers around 58.42 hectares and will be developed through a standard procedure with an environmental review.
A development freeze under § 14 BauGB has been recommended and is expected to be approved in April 2026. This is intended to prevent disruptive construction facts and to ensure planning security. The procedures are transparent, involving local advisory boards and the public. The costs of the procedure are covered by the city budget, showing that the city is ready to invest in long-term planning security.
Inclusive and Ecological Urban Development: The Salinental Park
Another central project of April 2026 is the redesign of the Salinental Park. This climate and health park will be barrier-free and at the same time offer ecological enhancement, recreation, and space for play for all population groups. Important measures include the expansion of the turbine ditch, greening of the pump house, and upgrading of the playground with inclusive equipment.
The play equipment has been deliberately designed for barrier-free access – with bucket swings, benches on swings, and slacklines. Natural elements such as dead wood, stone walls, and flowering shrubs have also been integrated into the rainwater management system. The planning was closely coordinated with the Disability Advisory Board and the Playground Working Group, emphasizing the social dimension of the project.
Investments in the Traffic Area: Berliner Straße and Resident Parking
In addition to planning new urban spaces, there were also concrete investment decisions. The expansion of Berliner Straße is part of a larger road construction project, which will be financed from the 2026 and 2027 budgets. Construction is planned to begin in September 2026, with completion expected in October 2026. The costs amount to approximately 240,000 euros gross.
Another topic was the expansion of resident parking. The motion from the "Fair Bad Kreuznach" faction led to a proposal for an annual ticket for residents at a cost of 180 euros. Streets such as Agricolastraße, Sponheimer Straße, and Ringstraße are affected. The aim is to offer residents a more affordable parking option while also alleviating traffic congestion.
Bauturbo Procedure: Accelerating Approvals
Another focus was on the Bauturbo procedure, which is intended to accelerate the approval process for construction projects with up to 15 residential units. The decision-making authority lies with the building director; for larger projects or deviations, the committee makes the decision. The approval period is three months, and in the case of the director's conflict of interest, the decision is delegated to the committee.
Guidelines regulate urban planning requirements such as parking spaces, greening, and compensation measures. The procedure is a milestone in construction administration, increasing efficiency while also creating planning security. It is a step towards a more flexible, yet still responsible, form of urban development.
Looking to the Future: Urban Development as a Process
The decisions of April 2026 show that Bad Kreuznach is on the right track to establish itself as a modern, inclusive, and sustainable city. The urban planning projects are not only planning but also social and ecological initiatives. They reflect the diversity of the city and contribute to improving the quality of life for all residents.
The challenges remain significant: the balance between growth and sustainability, between commercial and residential space, between traffic and the environment must constantly be redefined. However, April 2026 has shown that Bad Kreuznach is ready to master these challenges with clarity, transparency, and participation.
