Urban Development in Hiddenhausen: Expansion, Infrastructure, and Climate Protection in March 2026
March 2026 was marked in Hiddenhausen by significant decisions in the areas of urban development and construction. From the Schweichelner Straße to public transport renovation projects and climate protection initiatives – the municipality is making active progress.
Road Construction and Mobility: Challenges and Progress
The Schweichelner Straße was a central topic of urban development in Hiddenhausen during March 2026. The expansion is being carried out using lateral construction zones, with full closure for through traffic being necessary to ensure completion by May 2026. Access for residents is maintained, and despite weather conditions, the construction planners managed to stick to the schedule by increasing the workforce.
Additionally, ceiling renewal measures and thin-layer surfacing for several municipal roads were planned, with the tender awarded to the most economically viable bidder. In the area of public transport (ÖPNV), barrier-free renovation measures at several bus stops were prioritized. The administration used funding from the Zweckverband Nahverkehr Westfalen-Lippe (NWL) and provided a comprehensive report on construction progress and communication with residents.
Climate Protection and the Environment: Progress and Concepts
The municipality of Hiddenhausen is also implementing sustainable measures in the areas of environment and climate protection. In 2025, 2,221 kg of old cooking fat was collected, enabling a CO₂ reduction of approximately 6,804 kg. These fats are further processed into biodiesel, significantly supporting the municipality's climate goals.
Furthermore, the administration is preparing evaluations from speed measurement devices and speed information systems to analyze traffic behavior and accident risks. In the development of natural and green spaces, Hiddenhausen promotes blooming areas, scattered orchard meadows, and the maintenance of forest areas. The collaboration with cemetery nurseries and funeral homes aims at achieving sustainable cemetery management.
Administration and Planning: Transparency and Cooperation
The Committee for Municipal Development and the Environment has been reconstituted and includes expert citizens such as Dr. Rainer Riemann and Thomas Gruner. Ms. Köhler has been appointed as secretary, and the committee plans consultation meetings for March and beyond.
The CDU faction requested a detailed status report on the Schweichelner Straße, which the administration presented in full. Overall, a trend toward strengthening transparency and communication is emerging. In addition, several funding applications (2020–2024) were successfully submitted, securing the financing of construction projects.
Outlook: Stability and Future-Oriented Planning
March 2026 shows that Hiddenhausen has chosen a stable course in urban development and construction. With the expansion of the Schweichelner Straße, the implementation of climate-friendly projects, and the securing of financing through funding, the municipality is pursuing a sustainable and forward-looking approach.
The next meeting of the Committee for Municipal Development and the Environment is planned for March 10, 2026, at the town hall. Further details on ongoing projects and future measures will be discussed there. Hiddenhausen is proving that even small municipalities can act with great planning security and environmental responsibility.
