To ensure safety, the speed will be reduced to 30 km/h, and detours via the A44 and A57 will be in place.

The district committees have already been tasked with planning the bridge's cross-section, with preliminary planning beginning in the second half of 2026. The renovation work is an example of the balance between safety, securing traffic flows, and financial sustainability.

Additionally, a review of the suitability of zebra crossings on Stettiner Straße / Güstrower Straße was decided upon at the request of the Children's Parliament. The SPD faction advocated for urgent repairs on Frankfurter Straße to prevent accidents caused by road surface defects.

3. Cycling Infrastructure: Expansion and Safety in Transition

Düsseldorf is increasingly focusing on the expansion of cycling infrastructure. The planned cycle superhighway from Neuss to Langenfeld, to be implemented in several sections, is a central project that strengthens the connection between urban centers. Although land acquisition will only take place on Frankfurter Straße, the planning is a step toward stronger links between the city and its surrounding areas.

Another project is the review of Dresden Street as a traffic-calmed area – however, this will not be implemented due to compliance with RASt 06 and the level of cycling demand. Instead, roundabouts are planned in Hellerhof and Garath to alleviate traffic bottlenecks.

The city is also investing in smaller measures such as the installation of bike parking facilities, the optimization of cycle paths, and the protection of bike lanes at intersections. These measures are crucial for strengthening citizens' trust in the bicycle as a means of transport.

4. Traffic Management: Traffic Lights, Speed Limits, and Safety

In January 2026, several measures were also decided in the area of traffic management. A new traffic light system at Koblenzer Straße in Frankfurter Straße was examined to optimize traffic flows. In addition, the traffic light timing at the exit of Fire Station 6 in Garath was reviewed, though technical constraints exist.

Another topic was the reduction of speed limits to 30 km/h in certain areas. The 30 km/h zone between Toulouser Allee, Adlerstraße, and Bagelstraße was decided to increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists. These measures are part of a comprehensive strategy to shape urban development in harmony with the principles of sustainability and safety.
