Retrospcetive February 2026: What Was Important in Holzminden

In February 2026, important decisions were made at the town hall in Holzminden – from fire protection measures to culture and school development. Here is our monthly overview.

What Was Important This Month

  • New Members in Municipal Committees: The city of Holzminden has appointed new committee members for culture, education, and social affairs, including representatives from the Senior Council.
  • Fire Protection and Road Safety: The Fire Protection Committee has issued several inspection mandates regarding speed limits and bicycle traffic safety.
  • Cultural Festivals in Focus: The Culture Committee has decided to host the 18th International Street Theater Festival in 2027.
  • New Regulation for the Senior Council: The election rules and regulation of the Senior Council have been updated and will come into effect on April 1, 2026.
  • New Fire Station Construction: The zoning plan for the new fire station in Neuhaus has been approved and is now legally secured for planning purposes.

Fire Protection and Road Safety: New Measures for Holzminden

In February, the Committee for Fire Protection, Disaster Prevention, and Traffic initiated several road safety measures. A decision was made to examine a speed limit of 30 km/h on Fürstenberger Straße between Gartenstraße and Haarmannplatz. Additional inspection mandates were also issued, including for pedestrian crossings at Bäckerei Klingenberg and the Edeka branch. In terms of bicycle traffic safety, it will be assessed whether one-way streets such as Kirchstraße, Markt, and Oberbachstraße can be opened for oncoming cyclists.

These measures are part of a comprehensive road safety concept that the city is preparing in the coming weeks and will be discussed in the Council in March 2026. Residents can already contribute to the discussion via the public inquiry session.

Culture and Tourism: Theater Festivals and New Events

The Committee for Culture, Leisure, and Tourism has decided to host the 18th International Street Theater Festival from May 14 to 16, 2027. With a budget of 380,000 euros and an advance funding of 20,400 euros for artistic direction by the Cultural Office Nicole Ruppert, the festival is financially secured.

The theater festival is a central element of the city’s cultural development. It will be closely coordinated with the Stadtmarketing GmbH and the Zukunftsort (Future Space) and is intended to also boost tourism in Holzminden. The official approval of the 2026 budget is a prerequisite for final implementation.

School Development and Fire Protection: Investments and New Construction

In the areas of education and fire protection, there were important decisions in February. It was decided that the Astrid-Lindgren Primary School will have four classes, while the Karlstraße Primary School will remain three classes. The procurement of a mobile pool lift for the public swimming pool was rejected, instead a flattened staircase entrance will be built as a means of access.

In the field of fire protection, the zoning plan for a new fire station in Neuhaus was approved. The area “Am Roten Wasser” will be reclassified as a public need area, exclusively dedicated to the fire department. Accessibility via the B497 and the provision of a separate alarm entrance are central to the functionality of the new building.

Outlook and Connections

February 2026 shows how closely the topics of safety, culture, and infrastructure are interlinked in Holzminden. On the one hand, fire protection and road safety are being improved, on the other hand, investments are being made in cultural offerings and the future of schools. With these measures, the city is pursuing a clear goal: to increase the quality of life for all residents and at the same time to secure the city's long-term development.

Further decisions are planned for March, particularly on road safety, school development, and the 2026 budget. Residents are encouraged to actively participate in the committees and through the public inquiry session.

Conclusion: A Diverse Month for Holzminden

February 2026 was a month of many decisions and plans in Holzminden. From fire protection to culture and school development – the city is actively shaping the future. With the decisions made, the city will not only become safer, but also more livable and vibrant. The view into March 2026 remains exciting, as many of the decided points will now be implemented.
