In March 2026, the planning of the new fire station, traffic safety, and major cultural events were at the forefront in Holzminden. Here is the monthly review.

- 30 km/h zones and new pedestrian crossings aim to increase traffic safety.
- The 2026 budget was approved, with a debt level of 62.8 million euros.
- The International Street Theater Festival 2027 is in planning.
- The Senior Council will be re-elected – with better chances for diversity.
Fire Station in Neuhaus – Planning Progressed
Planning for the new fire station in Neuhaus has taken a decisive step forward in a joint session of the responsible committees. Development Plan No. 6 "Am Roten Wasser" was presented in a second amendment and extension and is now on its way to the final council meeting on 05.05.2026.
The focus was on the legal and urban planning coordination of the development plan with the applicable laws and the Regional Spatial Planning Program 2024. Funding is already secured, and no additional costs will arise.
Alongside the planning, further applications were also discussed, such as the construction of a pump track and outdoor training equipment and the establishment of public toilets at the train and bus station.
Traffic Safety and Cycling – More 30 km/h Zones and Better Routes
The city has approved four mandates for improving traffic safety. The goal is to set up new pedestrian crossings at central junctions (Lindenhof, Gartenstraße) and introduce 30 km/h zones. In addition, the cycling concept is being implemented, including opening one-way streets for two-way cycling. These measures aim at better traffic safety and a more environmentally friendly mobility concept.
Culture and Budget – Future Visions and Realities
In March, the 2026 budget was also approved after approval by the municipal authority. The city's current debt level is 62.8 million euros, with investments such as the train station square being subject to strict financial scrutiny.
In addition, the organization of the 18th International Street Theater Festival for 2027 is in planning. This event will once again be a highlight of culture and excitement in the region. Two loans – an annuity loan of 5 million euros and a liquidity loan of 15 million euros – were approved to secure investments and short-term financing needs.
Equal Representation in the Senior Council – New Election Rules
The city has approved the new election rules for the Senior Council. Starting with the local elections in 2026, the Senior Council will be re-elected, with a more transparent and diverse composition: ten members, five seats each for male/diverse and female/diverse candidates. This new regulation strengthens participation and representation in the municipal body.
Looking Beyond the Plate – Trends and Challenges
The current work in Holzminden shows that the city remains active on the level of infrastructure as well as in culture and social areas. The combination of urban development, traffic safety, and cultural offerings is a focus that aims to sustainably improve the quality of life for citizens. At the same time, budget planning remains a challenge that must be balanced with investments and cost-saving measures.
