Urban Development in Delligsen: Focus of April 2026

April 2026 brought significant decisions in the field of urban development and construction for the municipality of Delligsen. Particularly notable are the planning of a new fire station in Varrigsen, the sale of the street lighting network to Westfalen-Weser-Netz, and the renovation of the school toilets at the elementary school in Grünenplan. This blog article provides a detailed overview of these topics.

Urban Planning and Infrastructure: Delligsen's Decisions in April 2026

Urban development and infrastructure form the foundation for quality of life, safety, and economic efficiency in Delligsen. In April 2026, several central topics were discussed and decided upon in the municipal bodies. The planning of a fire station in Varrigsen, the handover of the street lighting network to Westfalen-Weser-Netz, and the renovation of the toilet facilities at the elementary school in Grünenplan mark important milestones in the municipality's construction and planning policy.

Fire Station in Varrigsen: From Feasibility Study to New Construction

Public safety is a top priority in Delligsen. In April 2026, it was decided to continue the feasibility study for the construction of a new fire station in the village of Varrigsen. After a thorough evaluation of various plots of land, it was decided not to attach the new building to the community center, but rather to prefer a freestanding structure on the site of the ball field at "Südstraße" (plot 96/46).

The administration was tasked with determining the planning costs for this new construction and incorporating them into the 2027 budget. According to the rationale provided, a freestanding building offers more flexibility for future expansions and enables better organization of fire department activities.

The decision reflects the willingness to make long-term investments in safety infrastructure without neglecting short-term financial burdens. By determining the planning costs, it is ensured that the construction remains in line with budgetary guidelines.

Street Lighting Network: Handover to Westfalen-Weser-Netz

Another central topic was the sale of the street lighting network in the villages of Grünenplan and Hohenbüchen to Westfalen-Weser-Netz GmbH (WWN). Until now, the municipality of Delligsen held civil ownership of the more than 21,400-meter cable network as well as the distribution cabinets. However, the maintenance and financing of such infrastructure pose a significant burden for small municipalities like Delligsen.

By handing over the network to WWN, the municipality will be relieved of long-term maintenance costs. The valuation of the network resulted in a selling price of €22,184. The depreciation over 25 years played a decisive role in this. The municipality benefits not only from the relief of costs but also from the integration into a larger, professionally operated network.

The decision was accompanied by the administration, which will draft and conclude the contract. The lighting itself remains, of course, in place for the citizens, but the responsibility for maintenance and modernization is transferred to a professional operator.

Renovation of School Toilets at the Elementary School in Grünenplan

The renovation of the toilet facilities in the older building of the elementary school in Grünenplan was another focal point addressed in April 2026. The existing facility was classified as dilapidated due to moisture, mold, and cramped conditions. The principal had already submitted a renovation request in 2025, and the administration was tasked with evaluating cost-effective alternatives.

The proposed measures include the replacement of glass blocks with plastic windows, the installation of new toilet cubicles, the laying of water-resistant vinyl flooring, painting work, and the installation of LED motion sensors. The total costs are estimated at approximately €24,000, excluding civil engineering work amounting to approximately €100,000.

The administration recommends implementing the measures in two steps: this year, the replacement of the glass blocks and piping, and in 2027, the installation of new cubicles and tiling work. The budgetary funds for the renovation are already planned for 2027 under account 21101.421100.

The renovation is a good example of how municipal resources can be used specifically to improve living conditions at the school and reduce long-term costs through preventive measures.

Outlook: Sustainability and Safety as Central Themes

April 2026 shows how the municipality of Delligsen acts with foresight and pragmatic planning in the areas of safety, infrastructure, and education. The decisions for the new fire station, the handover of the street lighting network, and the renovation of the school toilets are not only short-term measures but also investments in the future of the community.

By handing over the street lighting network to WWN, a sustainable model for infrastructure maintenance is being established, which could serve as an example for other municipalities. The safety of the population is strengthened in the long term by the planned new fire station. And the school in Grünenplan benefits from a modernized facility that promotes the health and well-being of the students.

In the future, it will be important to communicate such projects transparently and to actively involve citizens in the planning process. Only in this way can decisions that are sustainable for the community gain broad acceptance.
