Urban Development in Bremervörde: Focus on Infrastructure and Sustainability in the Vörder Feld Nord Construction Area
In March 2026, Bremervörde made important decisions regarding the urban construction project Vörder Feld Nord. The article explores the planning details, technical challenges, and social and ecological impacts of this ambitious project.
Urban Development in Bremervörde: Development of the B-Plangebiet Vörder Feld Nord
The city of Bremervörde has established itself in recent years as a pioneer in sustainable urban development. In March 2026, another milestone was achieved: The Committee for Construction and the Environment discussed the development of B-Plangebiet No. 125 "Vörder Feld Nord," one of the largest urban development projects in the region. With over 80 lots and approximately 100 housing units, the project is not only a key component of the city's housing supply but also of its transportation and climate policy.
Planning and Development: Technology Meets Sustainability
The development plan for the construction area was developed by the engineering firm CONTUR and serves as a model for modern, environmentally friendly infrastructure. Access is via the roundabout on Harsefelder Straße (L 123) and the adjacent construction area "Vörder Feld Süd." In the northern area, a connection to the Walkmühlenstraße will be created, which will be open exclusively to fire trucks, emergency vehicles, agricultural traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians.
A central element of the planning is the "calmed traffic zone" in the central part of the area. Here, walking speeds apply, and the street width is 4.75 meters, allowing for safe interaction between cars and trucks at reduced speeds. In the 30 km/h zone in the southern area, asphalt will be used, while the remaining roadways and parking spaces will be equipped with concrete block paving. The sidewalks and cycle paths will have widths between 2.70 meters and 3.50 meters, ensuring safety and accessibility for all road users.
For surface water drainage, green spaces and street drains in basins are planned. Each plot must retain at least 2 cubic meters of rainwater, and surface water will be channeled into the stormwater sewer via emergency overflows. In addition, a stormwater retention basin with a storage volume of 1,596 cubic meters is planned to manage heavy rainfall events.
Infrastructure and Energy: A Model for the Future
In addition to the development of the new residential area, a wide range of infrastructure measures is also planned. The foul water sewer will be implemented using free-flowing pipes with diameters from DN 150 to DN 200, and each plot will be connected via a DN 150 connection. The power supply will be ensured by a transformer station from EWE, which is necessary due to increasing electricity demand. Fiber optic cables will be laid in the building streets, while a gas line is not planned – a clear step toward more climate-friendly energy supply.
Bremervörde is also setting new standards in lighting: LED lighting will be installed, which not only saves energy but also increases safety. The installation of power, water, and telecommunications lines will take place during the initial development, ensuring long-term infrastructure.
Outlook: Balancing Sustainability and Quality of Life
With the completion of the construction area "Vörder Feld Nord," Bremervörde will not only gain a new residential area but also present a model project for sustainable urban development. The combination of traffic-calmed zones, environmentally friendly infrastructure, and modern facilities underscores the city's commitment to aligning ecological and social aspects.
The city administration has shown with this project that urban growth does not necessarily have to lead to traffic chaos or environmental burdens. Instead, Bremervörde offers a roadmap for other municipalities on how to design future-proof neighborhoods – with a focus on sustainability, safety, and quality of life.
