School Center and Kindergartens in Focus – April 2026 in Bad Iburg

In April 2026, educational and social topics were at the center of political attention in Bad Iburg. Important decisions regarding the primary school campus, cooperation with Osnabrück District, and the expansion of kindergarten care were made.

Education and Infrastructure in Focus

What Was Important This Month

  • Primary School Campus Planning Advanced: The Education and Social Committee approved the further development of the primary school campus and accepted the proposal from the FPD/WBG group.
  • New Agreement with Osnabrück District Planned: The existing agreement from 2020 will be revoked and replaced by a new agreement covering usage and billing.
  • Gymnasium Usage and Accessibility in Focus: The existing rooms in the basement of the school center remain in the planning phase, as they cannot be used in an accessible manner.
  • Kindergarten Care Expanded: Starting from 01.08.2026, the Kita St. Franziskus will extend its care hours to meet the growing demand.

Progress in Primary School Campus Planning

In April 2026, the Education and Social Committee made concrete progress in the planning of the primary school campus. The proposal from the FPD/WBG group, which relates to the campus budget, was unanimously accepted and forwarded to the next specialist committee.

A central challenge remains the use of the basement rooms in the existing school center. Although these rooms are included in the planning, they cannot be used independently or in an accessible manner. Therefore, the administration is tasked with continuing discussions with the Osnabrück District and drafting a new agreement on usage, billing, and ownership.

New Cooperation with the Osnabrück District

The existing agreement from 2020 on the use of the school center will be revoked. Instead, a new contract is being drafted, which will regulate both usage and billing. Particular importance is placed on clarifying ownership, as the city and the district hold differing positions. If an amicable resolution cannot be reached, the involvement of a lawyer is planned.

Another important topic is the use of the gymnasium. Since there are still unresolved issues, the new agreement will only be finalized once these are clarified.

Kindergarten Care Expanded

The Kita St. Franziskus in Bad Iburg will extend its care hours starting from 01.08.2026. This corresponds to the growing demand in the region. The proposal was unanimously approved by the Education and Social Committee. The specific implementation point has been postponed to the next committee meeting to review all organizational details.

Traffic and Mobility: Bus Stop to Be Replanned

The reorganization of the bus stop at the school center is another topic gaining attention. A common solution for the gymnasium and the future primary school is the goal. The Mayor is tasked with drafting a corresponding agreement with the Osnabrück District.

Overview of the Challenges

The planning of the primary school campus brings both opportunities and challenges. Coordination with the Osnabrück District and the clarification of ownership and usage perspectives are crucial for success. At the same time, it becomes evident that the demand for childcare places is increasing, making the expansion of existing offers necessary.

The city of Bad Iburg is therefore responsible for paying attention to both the future of educational institutions and the needs of families in the region.

Outlook

April 2026 has shown that education and infrastructure are at the center of political work in Bad Iburg. The planning of the primary school campus is progressing step by step, and cooperation with the Osnabrück District is essential for progress. At the same time, kindergarten care is being expanded, reflecting the growing population structure and the needs of parents.

In May, the focus will be on clarifying open questions regarding the agreement with the district and further developing the concrete implementation plans for the campus. The expansion of kindergarten care will also become more concrete in the coming weeks.
