Budget 2026: Deficit, Loans, and Investments
The 2026 budget for the municipality of Edermünde was approved in the Main and Finance Committee as well as in the Municipal Council. The regular operating budget shows a balance of –404,300 EUR, while the financial budget indicates a liquidity requirement of 172,400 EUR. To stabilize the budget, a loan of 1.1 million EUR was taken out, of which 500,000 EUR is available as liquidity loans.
The investment plan for 2027–2029 remains central, especially for the new construction of the community center in Haldorf and the fire department base in Grifte. The Municipal Executive Board was tasked with reviewing the purchase of adjacent land and requesting a deviation from the Regional Spatial Planning Plan.
The budget ordinance was passed in the Municipal Council with 18 votes in favor, 1 against, and 5 abstentions. A motion from the Bürgerliste Edermünde (BLE) was clearly rejected.
Development Plan 8a – Planning for Lange Heideteile
In the Committee for Construction and Environmental Affairs, the 1st amendment to Development Plan No. 8a "Lange Heideteile / Hinter dem alten Holz II" was discussed and approved. After stakeholder consultation and coordination, the amendment was publicly announced.
The vote on the decisions resulted in 5 votes in favor, 1 against, and 4 abstentions. A motion to establish three access points to the arable land was rejected (5 votes in favor, 5 against, 0 abstentions).
The development plan is part of the urban development in the district of Holzhausen and incorporates suggestions from stakeholder participation. The legal basis for the decision is based on §§ 3 and 4 of the German Building Code (BauGB).
Fire Department Structure: New Bases and Risk Levels
The Volunteer Fire Department Edermünde has revised its structure. In the Main and Finance Committee, it was decided to restructure the fire department base in Grifte/Haldorf. The risk levels for fire protection (B3), technical assistance (TH2), and ABC hazards (ABC1) were confirmed.
Additionally, an inter-municipal project to improve event safety with the neighboring municipalities of Gudensberg and Niedenstein was approved. In this project, Gudensberg will take the lead.
Cross-Topic: Political Tensions and Civic Engagement
February 2026 was marked by clear political differences. In several committees and the Municipal Council, there were close votes, highlighting the disagreements between parties and voter groups.
Thus, the Greens' proposal for a donation to Ukraine was rejected, as was the proposal to ban pesticides on municipal land. This underlines the tension between ecological goals and the realities of municipal budgeting.
At the same time, strong civic engagement is evident through stakeholder processes in the development plan and through requests for spatial planning deviations.
Summary and Outlook
February 2026 was a month of clear decisions and distinct political positions in Edermünde. The 2026 budget was passed – despite a deficit – and investments in infrastructure and safety were approved.
In March, further discussions on Development Plan 8a, fire department equipment, and the implementation of the new community center are planned. Citizens are encouraged to continue participating in the planning processes.
