Fürstenwalde in April 2026: Governance and Administration in Focus

In April 2026, Fürstenwalde was focused on numerous decisions in the areas of governance and administration. From land use planning to fire department planning – the month brought fundamental changes and discussions shaping the city’s future.

Governance and Administration in Fürstenwalde: Decisions in April 2026

In April 2026, Fürstenwalde engaged intensively with issues of governance and administration. Numerous meetings, resolutions, and administrative decisions laid the groundwork for future developments in urban planning, fire protection, financing, and citizen participation. The City Council, local advisory committees, and other bodies addressed specific planning and reform initiatives.

Land Use Plan and Urban Development

One of the central topics was the 36th amendment to the land use plan for the area "Fürstenwalder Gartenfeld Lange Straße". The plan provides for the conversion of residential land type 2 to residential land type 1, increasing the density of development and enabling a residential district with up to 500 rental apartments. Concurrently, Building Plan No. 127 was adopted. Both projects are part of long-term urban development and aim to improve infrastructure, increase green spaces, and enhance local amenities.

The procedures followed the provisions of the Building Code (BauGB) with public participation and comments from authorities. 24 out of 38 authorities responded, leading to further adjustments to the draft. The decision received broad approval in the City Council, underscoring political consensus.

Fire Protection and Emergency Response

Another central topic was the revision of the emergency response needs plan. The City Council unanimously approved the update, defining clear protection targets: 80% of incidents should be addressed within 8 minutes by the first unit with at least 8 personnel, and the second unit should arrive within 13 minutes.

To achieve these goals, staffing will be increased starting in 2026, vehicles will be replaced, and infrastructure at fire stations will be adapted. The planning is designed for the next ten years, with a further revision planned for 2031. The decision was supported by FORPLAN Research and Planning Company, with which the city now has a long-term cooperation.

Finance and Budget

Important financial decisions were also made in April 2026. The 2026 budget planning was the focus of several meetings. In particular, the financing of the Water Supply Joint Authority and the Cemetery Fee Ordinance were discussed.

The joint authority plans investments of 5.185 million euros, with a focus on wastewater and drinking water supply. In the cemetery sector, tree burial was introduced, and the fee ordinance was updated. Costs will rise to nearly 972,000 euros, with the municipal share at 194,000 euros. The decisions were made with a large majority, although political tensions between the factions were noticeable.

Citizen Participation and Committee Work

Citizen participation remained a central point in the meetings. In the local advisory committees Heideland, Rauensche Ziegelei, and Trebus, public question hours were held, where topics such as event planning, fiber optic expansion, and the mayoral election were discussed. Committee work was characterized by transparency and willingness to discuss, which was also evident in the City Council.

The meeting on April 23, 2026, was long and intense: from 6:36 pm to 10:51 pm, 23 agenda items were discussed. Although many resolutions were passed unanimously or with a large majority, there were also discussions that revealed political differences. This shows that Fürstenwalde – despite consensus areas – also has a pluralistic debate situation in administration.

Outlook

April 2026 marks a phase of stabilization and expansion planning for Fürstenwalde. The decisions in the areas of urban development, fire protection, and finance lay the foundation for a future-oriented administration. Citizen participation remains a central element of the governance strategy, which the city will further develop in the coming months. With the new planning and the personnel strengthening of the fire department, Fürstenwalde is ready to respond to challenges in the social, ecological, and economic areas.
