Urban Development and Construction in Biesenthal in April 2026 – An Analysis

In April 2026, several significant decisions regarding urban development and construction were made in Biesenthal. The new municipal office building, the redesign of tourist offerings, and environmentally friendly construction planning shaped the discussions. This blog provides a detailed overview of the most important projects and background information.

New Municipal Office Building – A Milestone for Biesenthal

The new municipal office building for the Amtsbezirk Biesenthal-Barnim at Plottkeallee 5 marks a significant milestone in the city's development. With a net construction budget of over 14 million euros and a construction period from 2029 to 2032, the new administrative building will not only provide a modern working environment but also serve as a central government building in the heart of the city.

The planning is divided into several phases: Following the approval of the design planning (LPH 3), the permit planning will follow in 2026, the construction planning in 2027, and the tendering of the rough construction work in 2028. The start of construction is planned for the end of 2028/beginning of 2029.

Architecturally, the project is based on a modern skeleton construction with a suspended wooden façade. The energy solution is based on a ground-source heat pump, and split air conditioning units are planned for cooling. Overall, the new building will be equipped with 68 car parking spaces and 58 bicycle parking spaces, indicating a sustainable transport policy.

Tourism Development – Biesenthal Becomes More Attractive

Tourism is a key topic for the development of Biesenthal. In April 2026, several measures to strengthen the tourist infrastructure were decided. These include the creation of new tourist maps, the development of cycling and hiking trails, and the expansion of the "Living Advent Calendar" to multiple locations.

A special project is the creation of the "Great City Circular Hiking Trail Biesenthal" on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the Sydower Fließ. The tourist signage will be supplemented by brown information signs and digital platforms. In addition, the cycling and hiking network is maintained and preserved by the district path supervisor.

With a budget of nearly 2,000 euros for personnel costs and third-party costs, the city of Biesenthal is ready to invest in the tourist infrastructure in order to strengthen tourism in the long term.

Building Regulations and Sustainability – A New Standard

In the city's building regulations, Biesenthal sets clear sustainability requirements. For example, the use of solar radiation energy in roof and exterior areas is permitted. For parking spaces with more than five spaces, green areas are required, and at least 50% of the non-buildable areas must be landscaped.

Another important element is the planting of trees: at least one large-crowned deciduous tree must be planted per 1,000 m² of building plot area. In addition, permeable materials are required for paths and parking spaces to promote groundwater recharge.

These measures reflect Biesenthal's long-term strategy to enable urban development that is ecologically compatible and livable.

Future of Urban Development – What Comes After 2026?

Urban development in Biesenthal is aligned with a long-term course. The planned new municipal office building, the environmentally friendly building regulations, and the investments in the tourist infrastructure show that Biesenthal is committed to a sustainable and future-oriented development.

In 2026, further important decisions will be made, especially in the areas of land use planning and zoning. The revision of the land use plan for 2026 is planned, which will regulate the future development of residential and commercial areas.

There is also a lot of activity in the areas of schools and sports facilities. The zoning plan for the high school in Wandlitz has already been approved, and planning for the new construction of the gymnasium and outdoor facilities is underway.
